My Favorite Things- Mom

The next post is from the inspiration behind most of my decorating ideas, my mom!

Kari and I have known each other since before she was born…..I’m her Mom. We share the same decorating, cooking, love of Christmas, and general all-around anything nesting gene. We always have such fun talking about different ideas we hear about or want to try. Even over Thanksgiving weekend, while they were here, we moved furniture around in our living room to change things up a bit—I tell you it’s a sickness we each have:)—but so much fun. I love reading her blog and had such fun putting together this list.

1. Any Christmas movie from classics to newer releases but my favorite oldie is “The Bishops Wife” with Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven. We watch it every yr along with many others, and in my opinion, is a standout.

2. Clinique Youth Surge cream. Oprah has Hope In A Jar, and I have Youth Surge. It makes this old skin feel young again. Won’t do without it!!!

3. Door County, Wisconsin. If I were able, I would send everyone there for a long weekend so they could understand why I love this place so much. From the cherry orchards, sunsets. local people, eating Swedish pancakes in a restaurant while goats are nibbling grass on the roof overhead—-pure love!!! It feels like we are going home the closer we get when we drive up there–been going for 20 yrs. now. Oh, the shopping is great too.

4.The book “Redbird Christmas” by Fannie Flagg. A sweet little book that I read every Christmas. I have a red wicker basket that I put out every year with all the Christmas books we have collected over the years. Some for the grown-ups and some for the children. This one is very special.

5. My charm bracelet. I feel every woman should have a charm bracelet. I had one when I was a young woman and loved it so much. Each charm was so special but it was lost. My sweet hubby bought me a new one a couple yrs ago and although it is in the early stages of collecting, each charm has a very special meaning. I wear it almost all of the time and I am not a jewelry person.

6. Down comforters and featherbeds!! We don’t have any now but when we lived in northern Illinois we had both and loved, loved, loved them. Our oldest Granddaughter, Kari’s oldest, used to jump in bed and call it Mamie and Papa’s marshmallow bed and she was right. It was like sleeping in a bed of marshmallows. Heavenly!!! Hmmm, maybe we need to talk to Santa about that.

7. Philosophy Christmas lotions and body washes. Really, I think I like packaging the most. They are just cute as a button during the holidays and the names—-yum!

8.The Grand Tetons in Wyoming and the Black Hills in South Dakota. Words cannot describe so I won’t try. If you haven’t already, just go—you’ll see what I mean.

9. Kindle is intriguing to me. I am an avid reader so anything that has to do with books and reading just interests me. Although I still love the feel of a new book in my hands, the smell of the paper and turning the pages so don’t know if I would really like it, I think my Santa is up to something. Hmm.

10. Panettone bread. It just would not seem like Christmas without it. We are not Italian. I am as German as you can get but oh how we love this bread. Let me tell you it makes the best and I mean the best French toast!!! This has been such a fun thing to do for Kari. I wish I could send all of her blogger friends each and every gift that I love but since I can’t. May I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Thanks so much, mom for a great list. That French toast is THE best. If you live near a World Market, they sell it there as do most cool little stores like Whole Foods, etc. Everything on this list, I love. See, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
