Here is the last edition of Favorite Things and why not save the best for last?
Mom’s Favorite Things
Favorite Christmas song…
Well you know me I love them all and play them well before Christmas. I guess my two favorites are Silent Night and Sleigh Ride. Of course, I love the sweetness of Dolly Parton’s voice but love all the old singers too. Like Bing, Perry, Glenn Miller Orchestra, the list goes on. I am listening to Emile Pandolfi’s Sleigh Ride as I write this and that is the very first Christmas CD I put in year after year when Christmas gets near. The sound of those sleigh bells just makes me smile. A ride in a horse-drawn sleigh with sleigh bells—on my bucket list!!!
Favorite thing to do at Christmas…
So, so many. I love to decorate, bake cookies and take in a Christmas concert, read Christmas related books and listen to all the beautiful Christmas music. Snuggle under a warm blankie and watch our favorite Christmas movies—-like “Christmas In Connecticut”, “Bishops Wife”, “White Christmas”, “Miracle on 34th St.” etc. and of course the newer ones like Love Actually—love that movie—another modern favorite “The Holiday”—would really like to stay in that charming English cottage or one like it—-on the bucket list too.
Favorite Christmas cookie recipe—
Christmas Cut Out Cookies
Recipe for Christmas Cut-Outs
1 Cup Margarine or Butter
1/2 Cup Sugar
2 Teaspoons Vanilla
3 Cups Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
Mix margarine, sugar add egg and vanilla. All flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix well. Turn out onto a floured board. Roll (I roll them about 1/4 in. thick) and cut out using your favorite cookie cutter. Bake 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them. They should have a very light tan color around the edges. Frost with your favorite frosting recipe.
Thanks, Mama, I love you!!
