And it only has four ingredients!
And you don’t need an ice cream maker!
Because YOU, my friend, are the ice cream maker.
This, however, is not a new idea, I remember this idea when I was growing up.
But we HAD an ice cream maker so we didn’t necessarily have to do this.
And let me tell you, that is THE best ice cream you will ever have.
Here is what you will need:
– small Ziploc bag
– gallon size Ziploc bag
– 1/2 C. half and half
– 1 T. sugar
– 1 t. vanilla
– ice cubes
– salt (I would use coarse salt, like sea salt)
Add the half and half, sugar and vanilla to the smaller Ziploc bag.
Then put ice cubes and salt into the gallon size Ziploc bag.
Seal the smaller bag and place inside the larger one.
Seal the large one and start shaking.
And shaking.
And shaking.
But it was raining this day.
Like clumpy ice cream!
It doesn’t make much.
I tried to double it and it didn’t really form well like the first batch.
My five-year-old was drinking the leftovers out of the bowl.
You will be doing this over and over.
We did it three times in an afternoon because the batches are so small.
But it was a fun way to make another rainy summer day go a little faster.
School.
At home.
Rewards and flashcards are a big hit.
I am no teacher but I love helping her to get ready for kindergarten.
So it was you who ordered up the hot, hot weather. Don't you know heat makes me cranky? Bring me some ice cream. And a margarita.

I LOVE making homemade ice cream! We have a maker, but I do the ziploc bag making with my kindergarten class. We usually double the small ziploc back to avoid leaks… And I bring in a bunch of towels because their little hands are always so cold! But, it really does make delicious ice cream. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it so much!

I'm going to try your ice cream this afternoon. Hope you're enjoying your hotter than heck summer now. I was sort of getting used to the cooler temps. Now I have to figure out where I need to move to to get that kind of weather on a regular basis 🙂
