One Word Holiday- Kari

The funny thing is I wasn’t intending on participating in this until someone mentioned something along the lines of “what was your answer to the Oprah question” and I was all……”ummmm, nothing”.
I was so busy coming up with witty retorts and typing in YOUR answers that it never occurred to me that I would need to answer my own questions.
So here is my attempt to answer them.
Be gentle with me.
And of course, they are long because ME.

What one thing annoys you the least about Oprah?

So here is the thing: I don’t hate Oprah.
The reason I created this question is that I like to be a smart ass.
Simple as that.
That and she is the favorite things goddess as it would be so I thought I would start out the questions with THIS question.
I never said I didn’t like her but I did kind of elude to the fact that she did annoy me.

What annoys me about her?
Her name dropping.

What doesn’t annoy me about her?
She wants people to have more than she had growing up and I really do love that about her.
She is inherently good, I believe.
And let’s face it, she has spectacular hair.
Bravo Andre, BRAVO.

Who is your favorite family member? Why?

This is hard and I hate myself for creating this question but I loved reading your answers.
I noticed a trend though.
The majority of younger people answered their mom if she was still with us; the majority of older people answered their spouses if they had one.
It was kind of a cool experiment really.

So I have several favorite family members for different reasons but I know I will get into trouble if I answer that way.
But it is my blog and my rules.
First, my husband.
He is my support and has been for the past almost 10 married years and 13 of our together years.
I honestly don’t know how I would get shit done if I didn’t have him in my life.
I recently started a part-time job and if I didn’t have him helping me out around the house, well, I would be eaten alive.

The other is my mom.
When it isn’t my dad.
My mom is one of my best friends.
She makes every single holiday, birthday and special occasion, well, more special.
She makes the world a much better place, quite honestly.
But my dad is a really close second.
Or third, if we are being technical.

What is your favorite blog and why? (not mine)

I don’t have time to add the links to all the blogs I love so I am just going to list all of the blogs I have in my Bloglovin’ feed and you can Google them if you want.
If not, I won’t get mad.
But just know it is your loss if you don’t.

So work on that in 2016 if you aren’t on there because if so, a lot of people are missing out.

I also added all of the blogs (again, if they are on there) that you listed as your favorites after the writing of this list, on my Bloglovin feed so thank you for giving me some amazing new blogs to read.

What holiday food item would you take a bath in if no one was looking?

Rolo Cookies.

What one present do you hope to receive this year?

A present.
My husband and I started this stupid tradition a few years ago of forgoing exchanging gifts in order to focus on just the girls.
That was the dumbest thing we have ever done as a couple because I missed opening gifts, quite honestly and I am pretty sure he did too.
Plus our girls used to love getting us gifts so this year I decided last minute that we would exchange stockings.
So we each took a child and went out separately on Christmas Eve morning to buy stocking stuffers within a certain budget for each other.
It was the best idea we ever had.
And we will never NOT get each other gifts again.

If you only had the money to make one holiday dish this season, which one?

Spaghetti and meatballs.
Every Christmas Eve since I can remember, our family has had this meal and I will make this happen until I am dead and buried.
There is a wonderful story behind how this tradition started that my mom and dad can tell beautifully which is why we need A Sara and Garner Life even more than ever.
The main tradition is my Dad makes and cooks the meatballs each year.
I can never make them as good as he does and I never will try.

What is one celebrity that is your absolute favorite?

My favorite celebrity is John Cusack mainly because he doesn’t give a shit and he is really intelligent.
If you follow his Twitter account, you will realize that he is way smarter than the average actor bear.
BUT he doesn’t act like a lot of those smart, asshole actors who KNOW they are smart.
Also. he is from Chicago and he is sexy as hell.
That’s it.
Were you looking for a deeper answer?

If you could have your own television show, what would YOU give your guests as your big giveaway?

A chance to spend the day working the job of their dreams no matter if they have a degree/certificate/qualifications or not.
I have always wanted to work in different careers but obvious things have stood in my way (money, degree, obnoxious people).
Wouldn’t it be amazing to get the chance to see what it would have been like to actually be a nurse? A teacher? A writer? A photographer?
Then after your day is up, get an offer for a scholarship to the college of your choice for said career.
No matter what your age, I feel like learning shouldn’t end.
I would give anything to go back to college and get my bachelors degree without having student loans.
I feel like I am not alone in that wish.

What one thing (besides any religious belief) is your favorite part of the holiday season?

Christmas break. Spending time with my kids, going to Portillo’s, driving around to look at lights, eating peppermint ice cream, watching movies and eating yet again. No schedules, no school, no time constraints for the most part.

If you could say one word to describe my blog, what would it be?

The best creative outlet I have ever had.
I love this blog so much that I almost feel like it is another family member.
Maybe I should have said this blog was my favorite family member…WHAT??
I took a part-time job over the holidays and I was really worried that my blog would suffer.
At first, I will be honest, it kind of did but two months in and I have found a groove and I am making my blog a priority.
I even called my blog my “second job” to my “first job” because quite honestly, it is.
I intend to make writing my career some way, somehow.
My part-time job was just a means to an end but this blog, this blog is my world.
I love it so much and I don’t ever want it to go away.
Because of all of you, I won’t let it.
Thank you for giving me a boost this holiday season.
Thank you for unintentionally making me realize that I can’t live without writing.
That was the best gift this holiday season for me.

My friend Jessie, who also participated in one of the One Word Holiday posts made a comment “you have a life filled with beautiful people, Kari” in response to another post and she is so right.
This whole project has lifted me up in a whole It’s a Wonderful Life way that I never expected to happen.
Thank you all of you for giving me my George Bailey moment.

I love all of you.
