Looking Back at Our Year 2017

I say “our” because you are a massive part of this adventure I have been on since June of 2010 and as they say, “there is no I in team”.

I haven’t written a recap post since 2013. Four solid years since I bid adieu to my blogging year of the past and welcomed in the new.

There are probably a few reasons why.

I am not always good at planning ahead.

I feel like this sort of post is really boring for you.  Who really wants to see my stats other than, well, me?

I feel like it comes off as bragging. LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!! LOOOOOOOKKKK ATTTTT MEEEEEE!!

But I want to take a moment out of the sponsored posts, the screenplay posts (it gets better, I swear) and the dessert quesadilla posts to tell you how much you really mean to me.

Touchy feely alert: This blog has been my constant companion. When the kids are going through a rough time when my husband and I have an argument when I am feeling sad or blue, I always know at the end of the day I can talk to the blog. Typing words that may never see the light of day or maybe crafting the bitch and moan post into something more appropriate. I have said for years that this blog was therapy I could afford and it’s true. You all have saved my life over and over for the past seven and a half years.

I have met such great human beings through this, in virtual life and real, whom without, I simply couldn’t have written this long. It is indeed “our” blog because, without all of you, it wouldn’t exist.

So thank you for this year of reading the good, the semi-good and the bad.

(The screenplay gets better, I swear)

2017 Top Referrers

(sites that send readers my way)

1- Pinterest. They have been sending readers my way since 2011 when I wrote about my bathroom floor.

2- Search engines. Duh.

3- Facebook. I guess it does come in handy.

4- My old blogger address. This means the re-direct function is working. (that’s a good thing)

5- Collective Bias. One of the freelance companies I write sponsored posts for, which makes me very happy.

2017 Top Posts/Pages

1- Master Bathroom Makeover. That damn tiny bathroom has been giving me page views for over five years. It gave me 14,000 plus views in 2017 alone! If I had known all I had to do was makeover a bathroom, I would have just stopped writing then. KIDDING.

2- My homepage. Duh.

3- My Top 10 Favorite Children’s Books. I just wrote this in October and already had over 6,000 views. (Thank you really goes to Collective Bias, see above).

4- Dill Pickle and Ham Dip. It’s a head-scratcher to me as well.

5- Mom’s Sloppy Joes. Look, I love my mom’s sloppy joes as much as the next Joe but really? I bust my hump on writing and this post from 2011 that has grammatical errors and like, half a paragraph, makes the list??

2017 Top Search Terms

(the words people most use to find me in a search engine)

1- “cream of chicken soup sloppy joes”  Mystery solved.

2- “sloppy joes with cream of chicken soup” Seriously?

3- “a grace-full life” THANK YOU.

4- “dollar tree mercury glass” Hey, it makes more sense than cream of chicken soup.

5- “weight watcher must haves” Probably because of all that cream of chicken soup Y’all are eating.

Goals for 2018

1- To write more about sloppy joes and/or cream of chicken soup.

2- That’s all I can think of.

Thank you so much for reading the words on this page. You make me feel like George Bailey weekly and I could never repay you for that.

Here’s to 2018!

And sloppy joes!

  1. I just popped on over and took a look at the bathroom and was really wowed by that floor! Great makeover!! Happy New Year to you Kari and keep up with the crafts and most of all the John Hughes references.

  2. Hi Kari,
I feel exactly the same as you…who really cares what a blogger’s top posts are? Not that I’m making this comment based on what you’re saying here…just in general you know? So for that reason, I may not even jump on that bandwagon this year. Impressed you haven’t done one since 2013. I was planning on writing a post about what I most dread after Christmas, but alas, my computer crashed dead the day after Christmas. So by the time I can ever publish it, probably no one will care. Here I am talking about me again. Love your blog Kari. I think I read that post about the bathroom floor, and many of your others as well.

    1. I appreciate your comments so much! I hope your computer was able to get fixed and that you don’t have to get another one. I am dreading that day since my laptop has been going strong for almost five years. Have a wonderful New Year, my friend!

  3. Your blog posts are fantastic, my friend. You always manage to make me laugh. In all honesty, I don’t read year-end blog posts that simply summarize their top posts. I don’t give a rat’s ass. And if I’m a regular reader of that blog, then I already saw that post. Yawn. Moving on…cream of chicken soup sloppy joes?! That sounds disgusting…and has to look like a pile of barf. πŸ˜‰

    1. It always counts. I have people commenting on posts from 2011. A comment is always appreciated!

Also, sloppy joes are never a bad idea. Serve with tater tots and brick cheese (my comfort food meal of choice).

  4. I still consider myself new to your blog, even though I feel like I’ve known you forever. But I am single-handedly improving your bounce rate. I swear I open five posts every time I visit you! Are you the master of post titles?! I think so!

Anyhoo, I haven’t read any posts here containing cream of chicken soup, but I think that just means I need to read MORE posts!

    1. I feel the exact way about you!!

We are good for each others bounce rate because I fall down the rabbit hole of your posts as well. And YOU, my friend, are the Queen of blog titles. We should have a pageant or something.
