Shows on Netflix I Watch That Surprise Even Me #StreamTeam

I still write for Netflix, in case you were wondering.

No Netflix still hasn’t bought the rights to my screenplay, shocking really.

And neither Beverly Hills 90210 nor Mad About You is on Netflix yet.

I guess I don’t have half the pull I thought I did.

Need to work on that for 2018.

Shows I Watch on Netflix That Surprise Even Me

One Day at a Time I watched the original version regularly as a child so I wasn’t sure I would like this one because I hate remakes. Ella and I got hooked on this show back in November and binge-watched the entire series in two days. I even cried during several episodes. Bonnie Franklin never had that effect on me, God rest her soul.

Disjointed I love Kathy Bates, I love weed, and I love this show. It has a laugh track and I know a lot of people don’t like that. Umm all of the ’80s and ’90s comedies had one, so I don’t get the problem. Smoke some weed before you watch and maybe that will make it better.

Anything Bigfoot-It will probably come as a shock to you (or not) that I am obsessed with Bigfoot. I have been mystified since I was a child and once watched a documentary about all of the Bigfoot’s that lived in the Texarkana area of the US. Compelling TV at a young age that affected me for the rest of my television viewing days.  Then one day over this past Christmas break, I get an email from Netflix notifying me that a show I might like is coming: Discovering Bigfoot.

I wish I could tell you how I honestly felt losing 20 minutes of my life after starting Discovering Bigfoot (I couldn’t finish it) but I won’t because I am a representative of the Netflix brand. But how could Netflix be so wrong about what they think I might like?  As if to answer that question, Netflix sent me another email this week suggesting I should watch Wedding Crashers, so I realized they don’t have a pulse on me as a viewer.

Cheer Squad– I don’t know why I can’t stop watching. Maybe it’s the Canadian accents. Maybe it’s the freakish cheer stunts. Maybe Wedding Crashers IS right up my alley.

Home: Adventures with Tip and Oh- Ella got me hooked on this show and now I can’t stop watching. Do you ever get tired of the mindless cartoons your kids watch but you want to be present with them and watch alongside? Then you will love this refreshing change of pace. It makes me laugh really hard and now I am starting to use phrases like “I am seeings that I might be likings Wedding Crashers”.

That won’t make sense until you watch the show.

Shows that Give Me Hope That My Screenplay Will Happen

The Polka King–  Something you don’t know about me is that I can’t stand Jack Black.

I can’t quite put my finger on it…..

Doesn’t he always look like he’s up to some skeevy sh#&?

Fun Mom Dinner– FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, CAN WE STOP MAKING MOVIES ABOUT MOMS LOOKING STUPID? That means you need to stop watching movies about moms looking stupid.

Video Game High School- Don’t send me hate email if you are a gamer and watch this. Also, don’t watch this.

Video Game High School- The Series– I guess someone must be watching this.

Shows I am Actually Excited About

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee- Mike and I spent a Friday night watching several episodes and have been hooked ever since. Each episode is only 15 minutes long (perfect for my television viewing attention deficit) and they are truly funny. Also, you will crave a cup of coffee during the show so maybe not watch it at 10 at night.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman– I have loved David Letterman since the ’80s and I was old enough (and sarcastic enough) to appreciate his humor. These interviews are worth adding to your list, especially his interview with Barack Obama. Side note- David Letterman looks like Bigfoot, which means we can get rid of Discovering Bigfoot.

I am currently a member of the Netflix Stream Team and have been for several years. They sent me a Roku and pay for my monthly subscription in return for honest reviews of their services.

  1. I love your reviews, and now I have some new ones to check out. I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for Mad About You, too!

  2. I have loved David Letterman since I was a teen. The comedians sounds like something I would like and yes, watching with kids… wanting to be present. I GET that. I’ll have to check out Home. As always, your posts are the bomb. Why has no one picked up your screenplay?

    1. Me too!

You will love Tip and Oh! I want to watch the actual movie Home that inspired this series. It isn’t on Netflix or On Demand so I am buying the DVD all old school on Amazon for Ella (and me) for a Valentines gift!

I love that you are shocked no one has picked up the screenplay yet. You are good for me and my blog. 🙂

  3. I’m also looking forward to watching the last two shiws you mentioned specially the Obama interview!
If any of your readers are looking for a foreign show to watch I would recommend a Korean drama called Misaeng meaning Incomplete life. Kelsey, Bernie and I really enjoyed watching this show.

    1. You will love the interview and miss him very much. 😦

I need to add that to my list! Are there subtitles? I need to broaden my television viewing horizons and this is just the show for me.

  4. Kari, you crack me up. I haven’t seen any of those shows, but you crack me up. I have just finished reading & commenting on 25 blogs tonight, but I came to look at yours b/c you always give me a chuckle & a smile.
Sounds like you have a thing about Bigfoot, like I have a thing about the Beatles from the 60’s era. I enjoy your blog. I have no idea who John Hughes is. Who IS John Hughes?

    1. Aww you are such a sweet person and a blogger’s dream. Know that you consistently making me smile.

FLORENCE!! I can’t believe you don’t know him!

Okay do you remember the movies Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Home Alone etc….? He was the writer and director. 🙂

      1. I don’t think I saw those. I’ve heard of them, but that was after my time haha. After the time I saw many movies. Lately I saw “The Greatest Showman” on the big screen, and before that “Titanic” on the big screen. I just don’t see many movies or watch much TV. My speed is TCM.

  5. Disjointed…none of us here liked it, sorry! And we like Kathy Bates. I love Jack Black. But you know who I don’t like? Not that you were talking about him, but Jim Carrey. I know, I know…I’m probably the only person who doesn’t like him. He’s super annoying to me and not even funny.

I know it’s not Netflix, but if you have Amazon Prime, you gotta watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!

    1. My parents didn’t like it either. I think it’s a love it or hate it kind of show.

Jim Carrey has literal ADD so he can be a bit much. Watch him on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and see if he still grates on you.

I do have Prime, so I don’t have to pay for the shows?

  6. I found the laugh track on Disjointed to be unsettling so I couldn’t watch it. Maybe I’ll try again. You might’ve already posted about this on an earlier date, but did you watch GLOW? I loved that show. Gonna go look for Bigfoot now.

  7. Netflix really is doing some amazing stuff – the One Day at a Time follow on (I can’t call it merely a remake) is fabulous! In my head, this is the same apartment a few decades later. Thanks for sharing with Party in Your PJs!

  8. Next best thing to Netflix? Spending my Saturday night getting caught up on a couple months of A Graceful Life!!!!

Big Comedians in Cars fan from back in its internet only days even-looking forward to the new ones! And the Letterman/Obama interview—LOVED!
