It’s My Birthday Month, Bitches!

I’m not sure why I called all of you bitches; I like the majority of you.

But it worked better as a title and also, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH, BITCHES!

My birthday is very important to me.

I’m sure it means a lot to you as well, so I’m celebrating all month long here on my blog and in person the entire week leading up to my birthday.

I’ve been celebrating my birthday week for quite some time, and I’ve brought you along for the ride:

When I broke into The Breakfast Club High School.

.

I shared with you my love of all things Grammarly.

I told you about how birthday week began thanks in part to my ex-husband.

And I even tried to do a writing challenge in honor of my birthday when I was a birthday month virgin.

Since it’s my birthday month again (YAY I MADE IT ANOTHER YEAR!), I found a set of writing prompts for the month of April on Pinterest because I don’t like to have to think during the month of my birth.

So I took my favorite prompts from the prompt list and broke them down into four posts a month (one per week), with each post getting a couple of prompts.

This week it is the following:

One thing I need to stop doing; one thing I need to start doing; and the one phrase I overuse.

One thing I need to stop doing

There are SO MANY things I need to stop doing, so picking one was kind of hard and I really didn’t want to do hard things during my birthday month, but I am an adult and hard things are being done daily.

Hee hee.

The one thing I need to stop doing is being hard on myself.

That, and I really need to stop eating sauerkraut before going out in public.

One thing I need to start doing

This one won’t be deep like the last one.

I really need to start looking for properties somewhere warmer.

Because I don’t know if I can survive another winter.

The one phrase I overuse

If you ask my husband, it’s “REALLY?”

If you ask my oldest daughter, it’s “are you KIDDING me??”

If you ask my youngest daughter, it’s “focus!” or “you gonna eat that?”.

If you ask me, it’s “RIGHT???” or “OMG”.

Oh and my favorite (and overused) emoji is the eye roll.

I’ll be back another day (not sure when) with more prompts. Birthday month Kari is much more easy breezy.

I wish every month was April.

  1. Cute! It’s my oldest son’s birthday month too and he was all smiles as I turned the calendar last night. Happy Birthday! (and if you find any crazy good warm weather properties let me know!).

  2. Happy Birthday month!

Is a birthday year coming next? Then you can just pretty much celebrate all the time. Cake every day of the year sounds pretty good to me. Although you might not make it for a second year, because cake every day of the year might just kill you!

  3. Don’t think some of us didn’t catch “I really, really like MOST of you.” 😛 I had to look up NABLOPOMO and I LOL’d because KMG. (kiss my grits.) I do good enough giving a crap posting once a week most times, much less every day for a month especially right now. Enjoy letting out your inner millennial and celebrating your birthday month. 😀

  4. Aw, happy birthmonth! I, too, caught the “most of you” but I know you love me so I just breezed on past that. 🙂 I believe I haven’t posted on my blog since the first week of March, so…no NABLOPOMO guilt/expectations/whatever here! To be honest, I couldn’t keep up with reading that much. So, once a week sounds just about right.

I’m sorry it’s been such a sucky winter for you. I don’t know how you mid-westerners deal, tbh. I’m thinking loads of crappy weather and anxiety/depression might be kind of a chicken-egg thing. It’s not super-warm in Portland, and the grey winters also do a number on a fair number of people I know here, but it IS warmer than where you are! And as of just this week, I’ve got flowers blooming in my yard, baby, which is definitely helping my mood.

As you can see, I have nothing profound or witty to share in response to your post. Mostly just wanted to say that I’m glad you made it another lap around the calendar and that you’re still writing here, however and whenever you want.

  5. Happy Birthday month! I love writing prompts, though whenever I try to do a daily posting challenge, I get about nine days into it and then stop posting for two weeks (and by weeks, I mean months). I’m excited for the rest of your birthday month series.

This post made me realize that we’ve known each other for over a year! I commented on a few of those birthday posts up there. To be fair, I click through your blog all the time and comment on posts from years ago, but I just checked the date. Ugh, writing that all out makes me sound like a weirdo.

Anyhoo, I’m glad you were born, and I’m all about celebrating it. Selfishly, one of the reasons I’m glad is because I love coming to your corner of the internet and reading your stuff! I mean, you also seems like you’re amazing IRL, so I’m glad you were born for all the folks who hang with you on the regular 🙂

    1. Aww, it’s our anniversary!! I love that so much. I am so glad you were born too.
If you are ever in Chicago for work, we NEED to go to lunch/dinner/drinks or all of the above.

  6. Happy Birthday month! Don’t have cake without me!
PS The one phrase you overuse- “Right?” and back in the olden days, “It is what it is.”

    1. It is what it is!! Yes!! That’s a good one. I still use it!

I won’t ever eat cake without you.
Maybe we should get Kelly to make my birthday cake…….

  7. Congrats on using ‘birthday month’ a record-breaking number of times in this post . . . someone is excited! Good for you. Great to have a birthday to look forward to when the weather is starting to not suck.

Birthdays were never big for me. Not by choice. My bday is Dec. 30th. Yuck. Wanna know what makes it worse? My brother was born Dec. 27th – um, just before I turned one. We are Irish twins. Irish twins whose birthdays are so close to Christmas that joint gifts were all the rage. I never had to go to school on my birthday, so there’s that. Anyway, if I ever claimed December as my birthday month, I think I would get in trouble with my folks because they would be like: ‘No – Jesus, duh!’

I swore I would not have a baby near Christmas -so, that explains why 3 of my kids have b-days close to Christmas.

I will shop with you for those warmer getaway properties. I just told Coach that moving forward I will require a bit of time away each winter to a warm destination. I see this as a girls’ weekend in the making. Are you in? Or, I guess if we are shopping for your place, then can I be in? Whatever – let’s do this!

    Happiest of birthdays/birthday months!

    1. Oh man, that kind of stinks. I feel like anyone with birthdays around the holidays gets completely gipped. I think you should celebrate your half birthday instead. That would be June for you and we both know that June weather in Chicago is much better than December weather.

My youngest daughter’s birthday was supposed to be the end of January but she ended up being born 11 days into the new year and I do feel a little bad that she is getting presents two weeks after Christmas then none the rest of the year. First world problems, I know.

      I. AM. IN.

    2. Hey Ernie–
Just wanted to shout out from one Irish twin/December baby to another! My brother was born Dec. 31 and I was born the following Dec. 13. At least my birthday comes before Christmas–but then it becomes just another thing I have to do in a month with too many! Oh well.

      1. Rita – wow you guys are even closer than my brother and I! December is just busy. It is a drag of a time to have a birthday- let alone an Irish twin with a birthday. Our combined cakes and combined parties were suckie. Curly was due Dec. 25th. I begged to go late so I could get thru Christmas with the other 5 kids. She was going to be a big baby, so the doc insisted on inducing early. She is December 19th. Best Christmas gift ever – especially for Mini who up until then had 4 brothers!!!

  8. One more thing, I think a good gift to yourself and the rest of us bloggers would be for you to reach out and invite Eileen O’Connor at No Wire Hangers Ever to wish you a happy birthday! I just stumbled on her blog – when I read your blog for the first time, and she cracked me up. I want her to come back. Can you do that with your ‘birthday month’ super powers?
