What Does My Perfect Day Look Like?

Welp, my birthday month is drawing to an end and so is my list of prompts with this week being the last.

But the party doesn’t need to end.

I want to do prompt writing more often if I can get away with it because honestly, my soul comes out more in this type of writing.

So if you’re up for it, let’s see how this plays out going forward. Sound like a plan?

This week’s prompts are what does my perfect day look like and name some things you are loving right now.

What does my perfect day look like?

It’s funny that you ask, oh prompt-guru! My birthday week (last week) was full of days that I curated to make me smile.

The week of my birthday I had plans such as: getting another plant in honor of Earth Day, going to lunch with Rebecca and my youngest, going to a homeschool art show where her artwork is being featured, going to Trader Joe’s (a guilty pleasure I don’t often get to), spending a day pampering Buddy (it’s his birthday week too!), going to a fun shopping center as well lunch alone with my mom, getting a massage.

Then on Mike’s day off, we ended up doing, what has become my perfect day.

We usually do it alone while the girls are at school but since our oldest is away at college and now our youngest is homeschooled, we got to bring her along which I was kind of excited about.

This is what we did:

Went to Mr. John Hughes grave to say hello

By the way, that deer was torn down. Very mysterious……

Ate at Paradise Pup for lunch

And headed to the Save Ferris water tower and sat on the John Hughes dedication bench (thank you, Melanie, for that tip!) and got ice cream at Graeters around the corner

It is my perfect day that I look forward to each year.

I have to say, my birthday week isn’t full of only monetary things, in fact, it’s a lot cheaper than you would think. But it was the things I wasn’t planning on, that made my week even better.

We had gorgeous unseasonable weather almost every day except for the snow we got the day before my birthday. But I’ve never seen snow on my birthday in my entire life, kind of cool. Actually, only cool because it was gone within four hours and back to the glorious sun on my actual day.

This week was full of texts, messages on social media, love from near and far.

Full of dandelion bouquets and visiting new places in my area.

It was full of people who have decided that birthday week is a great idea and that they are going to use it in their lives.

It was full of days spent with my favorite family and friends.

It was full of thoughtful gifts left on my front porch.

It was Facebook wall messages all day of my birthday.

It was texts from my oldest away at college, each day counting down my birthday and a Face Time on my actual day.

It was absolutely lovely.

Some things I am loving right now

The book 2000 Questions About Me (affiliate)

This has been a joy to fill out this month. I found it while at Target last month when I was there shopping for a baby shower gift with Ella and Rebecca and added it to a list on my phone. I looked it up on Amazon and it was actually three bucks more than Target! THEN, I was at Five Below with Ella one day a few weeks later and found it for $4 on the first day of birthday month. Coincidence? I think not.

Underwear that fits (affiliate)

I am going to get uncomfortably honest: I needed underwear that fit. I’ll let you in on a little secret if you don’t already know: when you go through menopause, you can’t lose the tummy. I had two c-sections that cut through really important muscle groups and I can’t get those muscle groups to get their shit together no matter how many crunches I do. I always end up looking like I just finished my first trimester of pregnancy. I needed help and Amazon was just the “person” to help me.

These undies give a little bit of support, smooth you out if you get my drift, and don’t ride up. Do they look a little like granny panties? Yep. But I don’t care, my husband doesn’t care, and neither should you. Also, that high rise look is all the rage. Very retro.

Like me.

Oh and if you just had a baby, these are amazing too.

Life is too short to have a piece of fabric ride up your ass.

Sew that on a pillow.

This stuff has given me life for the past three years. Every spring it comes to my local Meijer and I buy it up like its gonna go away.

It will.

Because it is only in stores in spring but you can get it on Amazon year-round,

That Amazon, putting out of business in-person shopping one store at a time.

But if you want your home to smell like spring in February? Hit em up.

I really didn’t mean for this to turn to an Amazon affiliate post, I swear. I just really like those things.

And Amazon, apparently.

One last thing I am loving:

My friend Rebecca has loved BTS for a long time and now Ella is hooked as well.

I was just on the fence until this song.

Listen, dance, and just get it into your head.

You know why?

IT’S STILL BIRTHDAY MONTH, BITCHESSSS!

  1. Hmm, I think I might give those panties a try. I didn’t know “granny panties” were in now. Glad to hear you had a good birthday month. One last question…and I’m showing my age here…who ARE those girls…or are they boys (?) in that video?

  2. Yay! I officially love your birthday month! And also, happy belated birthday. I was in a bit of a blog vortex for the last two weeks and am just now catching up.

I love that visiting John Hughes is a part of your perfect day. When I was asked what my perfect Sunday was, I said it would involve some sort of food festival that started after noon, so that I could sleep late. And the food festival should have some sort of mac and cheese featured. And although this is my perfect Sunday, it isn’t necessarily my perfect day. My perfect day, would be one that I could get as close to a Stars Hollow day as possible, and I know you’d appreciate and understand that.

Also, I’m totally on board with your prompts. You could create them too, I think you’ve got a good enough following that folks would join in. I know I would!

    1. I understand you completely. Never, ever forget that.

Let’s do this. The prompt thing. FOR REAL. I know we said we are going to do the tee shirt thing (still think we should) but let’s create a cool blog hop thing with prompts!

      1. ‘Sew that on a pillow’ love it! I am enjoying your prompts. That weather on Saturday was crazy, right? I had to drive to Northbrook because my daughter was in Irish music championships. Not a fun drive. OMG do I sound old or what? Love that you went to John Hughes grave. You are a super fan! Happy birthday! And by the way, I crack up every time you call your readers bitches!!

      2. It was insane. I get snow anxiety (it’s a thing) and I was a bit of a mess Saturday on the inside but Sunday made up for it.
My readers are honestly the best, so I feel bad calling them bitches. 🙂

  3. I love getting out and taking a day trip (or weekend if the budget allows!) for my birthday. It’s so much more fun to experience life than get more things. Sounds like you had a great day!

  4. Yes, prompt writing is great. I think we’ve discussed this before. It’s honest, and I think it feels good to get it out.

  5. Sounds like you’ve had a pretty darn good birthday week. I love how you treat yourself to all these little things that you love…that self-love is so important! But hmm, I dunno about those granny panties, lol. I think I’ll stick to my mid-rise Warners. 😉

  6. So since our birthdays our six months apart we could celebrate half birthdays too and celebrate together! Obviously this means we will take turns traveling to each other! This plan is awesome in my head, so I will just leave it there right now! (I mean am I a half birthday celebrator? No. But am I morally opposed? Also no)

    1. I love this idea!! I also love the idea of half-birthdays especially when there is a winter birthday involved. Ella is at the beginning of January; I think we need a do-over in July.
