Movies I Love (Listed by Year)

I am planning on publishing blog posts three days a week going forward until this quarantine of massive proportions is lifted. I have new and old content I will be sharing on Wednesdays in addition to the reblogs on Fridays. This is from November and has so many movies listed that I thought it would be a perfect post for today.

I blame Buzzfeed for this post. I was innocently taking a quiz about how what movies I loved would tell me what Thanksgiving side dish best represents my personality (stuffing but this isn’t surprising) when I saw a list of movies (by year) from 2000-2009 that I loved.

Recently, our family was out to lunch with another family we are friends with when we talked about movies Anna really needs to watch. It all began back in October when Mike and I noticed a…

  1. What a great post!
I’m ashamed to say, but I’ve never watched the Animal House in its entirety which is odd since the husband quotes lines from it all the time.
And yes, the original Willy Wonka was better. As much as I enjoy the weird Mr. Depp, he was too weird in the remake.
The 70’s movies were so wonderful too. I really loved Little Darlings mostly because I was such a wannabe.
And we are for sure on the same page for the 80’s movies. *sigh*
I feel like I need to watch The Color purple as I’ve not cried in about 36 hours.
I watched Won’t you be my neighbor a few weekends ago and I’m still puffy. IT was SO good!
I hope you and your peeps are doing well and not getting on each others nerves. 😉
    XO

    1. I feel like this is the time to watch all of the movies. I also feel like I am crying daily, but that counts as self-care now.

Sending you and your family lots of love.

I feel like I might go write in the comments section of random blog posts over the next few weeks as therapy. I am not even kidding.

  2. Somehow I missed this post the first time around, so thank you for re-posting. As it happens, I just re-watched Tootsie last night. Oh, I thought Jessica Lange’s apartment was so pretty back then, and I loved the way she dressed in that movie. Both still hold up (even if other things don’t as much–oy, we were sure in a different place when it comes to gender).

Reading your list made me feel happy/sad all at once. The reality of what we’re facing is sinking in. All of it. What I wouldn’t give to travel back in time for just a few hours to sit in the theater with my cousins and grandma and watch Bad News Bears again. I know we are in a time of profound change. I know we’ve needed profound change, and I am trying to hold onto hope for the good that may come out of all of this, but this morning I am mostly sad. And missing not just last week’s normal, but last century’s normal. Sending you love.

    1. I just watch to see a while ago too and I felt the same way! It was comforting to see such an 80s style apartment.

Right?? It just feels so unreal. I will NEVER take for granted going out to the store again.

      Never.

  3. 1) I love this post. Whenever I get on a knitting jag, I love to have a giant list of movies that I can power watch. Also…2020.

    2) The 80’s and 90’s had the movies.

    3) We watched Benji at an air bnb family vacation this last fall and it was so cheese and camp and awful. It was absolutely lovely.

  4. Hmmm…my comments are disappearing. I’ll try one last time.

    1) love this list. I love having multiple movies I can power watch while on a knitting jag. And…2020.

    2) The 80’s and 90’s had the movies.

    3) we watched Benji in a family vacation recently and it’s so horrible it’s adorable. So campy and silly and fun.

  5. Comments were being finicky. I think I found a workaround. Hopefully.

Anyway…I really want to say thank you for this post. Yes, it’s 2020 and all that goes with it, but also (fingers crossed) when this madness is over, I like have lists of movies to power watch when I’m on a knitting jag. Your two hours of work are making my life WAY better (so thank you).

Also WHAT is it about 80’s and 90’s movies that make them SO good. SO good. Nostalgia?

Finally, we watched Benji on VHS this last fall while staying at an air bnb (they had a whole stack of old movies). It was so horrible it was adorable. Absolutely full of camp. My kids LOVED it. So cheeseball!!

Thank you SO much for sharing!

    1. I loved writing this post, so it makes me happy that it brought you happiness too!

I actually have this post saved to my phone favorites when I’m trying to think of a movie.

And you’re right, what is it about those 80s and 90s movies? They just hit the spot. ❤️
