Screw It I’m Eating Tater Tots-Part 14

How are we all doing? I’m in another migraine cycle that might have been avoided if my neurologist and insurance company had worked together, and while this would normally be something I would despise, I would persevere. But, with the lockdown still in effect, I am exhausted on many levels.

Hair Update

I mentioned a few months ago how I am in a hair intervention. Let’s have a check-in to see how I’m doing.

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

What I’m Watching

What I’ve Been Doing

Teaching our bird, Joy, to talk

I learned you can teach your parakeet to talk by repeating words or phrases over and over. I never thought our bird would talk, but thought it would be fun to try!

I found a BBC video of a talking parakeet (Disco). So Joy and I would watch the videos, and I would hope that some of what she heard would sink in. I also repeated two phrases over and over for a two-week period, “she is a good Joybird” and “I love you.”

Then one morning, I heard Joy making unusual noises; kind of like she was trying to find her voice? Then I heard words!

She can now say, “is a good Joybird” and “pretty bird, ” and I feel like I gave birth again.

Get yourself a bird if you are in uncertain times.

Keeping the peace

Keeping peace with an almost 13-year-old and a grown adult has been the hardest thing I’ve done in this pandemic.

One day, I wanted to run away from my house and never return, in case those of you have no children at home need some perspective.

Here is a good article about sibling relationships in the time of Corona.

Educating myself

I finished a free course from Johns Hopkins on Contact Tracing. If you or someone you know (we ALL know them) is getting your coronavirus education from the school of Facebook, then I urge you to educate yourselves. This is how I am choosing to do so. It was completely free (unless you want the certificate), and it was enlightening.

Head here to enroll.

Otamatone

I need an otamatone and you will too once you watch these videos.

Bonnie Hunt

I cannot, in the ten years of writing here, believe that I haven’t mentioned Bonnie Hunt more than once or twice.

Two Ice Cream Cups

Dairy Queen needs to create a sampler or a flight of Blizzards. Kind of like a beer flight? So, for example, the cotton candy flavor. I don’t want an entire blizzard of Cotton Candy flavor, just a taste. Does that make sense?

I feel like they would sell more items this way. If you know someone at DQ headquarters, pass it on to them.

Watch This

Two of my friends shared this video in the past month, and I felt like you might want to see it too.

Lastly, I will just leave these two here:

  1. As always, I love these posts. And you. Those hair pics. You and Nick. Lovelovelove.

I have always loved Bonnie Hunt, too. And now that you’ve mentioned it, I think Bonnie is how I imagine you must be in real life. If you had longer hair. (But not like Nick’s.) There’s something there.

I’m also not planning to rush right out into the re-opened world. The virus is still there. But I am looking forward to getting outside as much as we can. Think it’s likely going to be a long winter.

I’m so sorry about your migraine. I know. Wish I could punch your insurance in the face.

    1. THAT IS THE BIGGEST COMPLIMENT. About Bonnie. Thank you. You made me gasp out loud and smile so big in the middle of a migraine cycle. ❤️

Yes to long winter. We need to figure out what we need for our mental health toolboxes. It’s going to be taxing for sure.

      PUNCH THEM. Please?

  2. You’re very welcome. I still think that was so cool!!

Also: I think the DQ blizzard flight is the most amazing idea. I have three favorites that I rotate but think…I could smaller versions of all three!! PERFECT!!

And keeping the peace is the freaking WORST. I actually took myself for a four hour car ride two weeks ago BECAUSE I COULDN’T TAKE MY PEOPLE FOR ONE MORE FREAKING SECOND.

Lastly…yay to Joybird!! My Gram had two parakeets when I was young. One was a big talker. The other wasn’t.

    1. Aww I’m so happy for car rides! Mike and I took the dog and went for a ride in the Wisconsin countryside yesterday and ended up at a favorite restaurant in Waukesha. We ate in the car but it was magical.

I think I should email the CEO of DQ. Wonder if they would put me on the payroll?

I’m working on saying more words. Who knew the parakeet would save us this year??

  3. … And yet the W.H.O just came out and said that healthy people should not wear masks in public… (CNN yesterday)! I am just so sick of all the conflicting rules and information.

    1. I am too. It changes daily. I do think that varies from state to state too but the WHO and CDC change the rules all the time. I think there’s just so much more we don’t know about this virus. They’re learning along with us. 😳

  4. I am so sorry you’re in a migraine cycle again. What happened with your doctor and the insurance company?

Not much is changing for me either with the partial re-opening of our state. Would I do outdoor dining at tables that were far apart from each other? Sure. But I’m not waiting in line at any store to go shopping. I’ve been doing fine with just grocery shopping and the occasional Walmart, or ordering on Amazon.

My hair looks on par with yours, except imagine your hair twice as long and curls sticking up all over the place. Yep, that’s me. I have a hair appointment on Friday and I can’t wait! Only one person at a time is allowed in the salon, you have to wash your hands when you enter, your temperature is taken, and you have to wear a mask. Brian actually drove up to Lake Geneva last week to get his hair cut. He couldn’t stand it any longer.

I hardly watch any TV, so I can’t even recommend anything to you. Some nights before Brian goes to bed early, we’ll watch a little TV, but lately all it’s been is Divers, Drive-ins and Dives. Tim wants me/us to watch a show on Netflix called Midnight Gospel. It’s an adult animated science fiction show. I guess it’s pretty trippy:

Just watched the trailer for Return to Me and that looks lighthearted and funny. Brian’s off work for awhile right now, so I think we’ll watch this tonight instead of DDD. 😉

In all seriousness, if you ever feel the need to run away from home for awhile, you are always welcome here. My house is usually very peaceful. You could even have the guest room with the door closed all to yourself if you want.

Ice cream…mmm. I could definitely go for a flight sampler. Genius. There’s some place up in Wisconsin that serves like 24 scoops of different ice cream in a huge tray that you and your family or friends can dig into! But I like your idea of the small samplers – for one person, cuz I ain’t sharing my ice cream – instead.

Oh, please, please, please tell me those things about Ellen aren’t true! I always thought she was always so genuinely kind. I can see it in her eyes. Don’t burst my Ellen bubble.

    Love and miss you!
    xoxo

    1. I love your comments so much. They bring me so much joy.

I was on a preventative that I would administer every three months and it worked but we have new insurance this time and my doctor drop the ball getting the insurance company the form they need it. So now I’m using my old preventative for the next 25 days and I’ve had a headache ever since I took it on Tuesday.

Oh please watch Return To Me tonight! It’s such a good movie. Mike, Ella, and I watched it last weekend again.

I’m not allowed to get a haircut until August so…

I may take you up on your offer to come to your house. If I show up on your doorstep someday, don’t be surprised LOL.

I know that place! I’ve been there before and their ice cream is pretty amazing.

So I had heard that Ellen DeGeneres was kind of an ass last year for the first time and it shocked me. But it came from a reliable source and someone who usually doesn’t spread rumors, so I believed it. Then I read the articles that went along and I’ve heard so many people saying yes she is kind of a jerk. It kind of burst my bubble.

Love and miss you too! ❤️

  5. OMG- I needed time after reading this to comment . . . so much here. First, you are so funny sharing the hair picture. You are gorgous – eh, show me someone who is NOT a little rough around the edges right now and we will know that they are holed up with a personal stylist during quarantine. I say embrace your au natural self.

Thank you for the imago of you talking to the bird. I take it things for you have, well . . . gone to the birds then? Seriously, so fun.

I love Bonnie and I never saw that movie. Reggie graduated tonight but the video ceremony already ended and matbe I can convince my people to watch Return to Me. Coach is still at work, but if I say wholesome he will be all about it!

I so enjoyed those ominiaiphone/instrument videos. That is NOT the spelling but you know what I mean. Can you say stocking stuffer?

Wait, siblings sometimes don’t get along in your world? Huh. Go figure.

That explanation of masks is genius. So hilarious.

The killing and violence and looting going on is so disturbing. Heartbreaking. What is wrong with people?

Anyway, you make me laugh as usual- thanks. Needed that. Oh and I do not have time yet but I plan to check out the link about Ellen Degeneres, is she mean? I have heard snippets.

Oh last thing, when I get Netflix – you will be my guru. We just dropped Direct TV. I made Coach get an antena so I could watch WGN news each morning. Babysteps, babysteps.

    1. WATCH RETURN TO ME! You guys will love it. I promise. ❤️

Yes to the stocking stuffer. I feel like we will all need one by December. As a reward for making it through 2020.

Definitely read the article about Ellen and let me know what you think. It’s interesting that you also had heard snippets.

YES! So many things to watch. I’ll make a list. 😊

  6. So much to unpack….do I even have a suitcase that big? Yes, yes I do.
Your hair; you crack me up! You don’t even come close to Nick. Is he even still alive? What a mess. I’m 5 weeks past my cut/color. Hair goes through stages, some are not fun, but we push through. Kari, we push through.

I LOVE BONNIE HUNT. I forgot about her until you mentioned her. Her show was everything. I’m sure I watched that movie, but I’ve forgotten about it, but I just made a note to watch it soon.

I need to hear your bird speak. I love that so much….it’s not corny or weird; it’s freaking cool!

Sorry about your migraine and the fact that the girls are at each others throats; that’s not cool.

Ellen. Hmmmmm….I always had this feeling about her. About 15 years ago I was at women in faith conference. Sherri Shepperd was one of the speakers; remember her? She was on the View, but before that, she had a gig on Ellen as a correspondence. Sherri didn’t get into it, but she did mention that Ellen struggles in life and people aren’t always as joyful as they seem and it struck me.

I do hope you feel better. I feel better after reading all this from your heart this morning.

    1. I love you and your suitcase.

I shared it on Instagram (Joy talking) but I need to share it here. Sharing a video on my blog isn’t easy for me. This should not surprise any one.

Too many different Ellen stories that all say similar things. Hmmm. 😳

      1. I found that sharing videos was so much easier on WP than on blogger. In other WP news I learned how to use the block editor. Somehow this feels like I should get an award. I need to hear joy talking. Can you FB message it?

        Liked by 1 person

  7. No secret. I just started playing with it after I got a notice saying the classic editor was going away. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but not as difficult as I initially thougt. But, you CAN still use the classic editor; WP is a big fat liar!

    1. I need to play around with it more. They make it a little difficult to figure how to switch from block to classic when you first begin WordPress. I’m afraid if I go back to block, I’ll forget how to get back. 😂😂

I’ve also heard Ellen was an ass.
I love that you taught your bird to talk in a pandemic. That’s a good book pitch.

I’m missing your three times weekly posting, by the way. ❤️

    1. Man, I can’t believe how many people are hearing she is not nice…..
I feel like it would make an excellent children’s book.

Aww, you are sweet. This week was a rough migraine week, so I took the rest of the week off.
Now that we are opening up, I am stopping the Wednesday posts but will plan on trying that again next fall/winter.

      1. Some think it’s a political thing to affect the election, others think it’s overblown to control people, and so on. The vast majority refuse to wear masks, not that it’s mandated anyway. Our state reopened at the beginning of May (following no reduction) and cases are blowing up now. I could write a whole post on this, because it’s beyond ridiculous.
