I was shocked as well.

  1. Home Depot has hot dogs where you live? Well color me mustard yellow, I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Comfort food for me involves chicken and gravy, or chicken pot pie, or cream of chicken soup. Always has, always will I suppose.

    1. Color me mustard…Oh Ally, I love you. But, yes! They do. It’s definitely a Chicago thing.

I love all of those things, too. Chicken is a favorite of mine, as well. All of those things are also favorites of mine. Cream of chicken soup and Ritz crackers? MMMMM.

  2. Popcorn. I just love popcorn and eat it all the time.

Food is fraught in our house, so generally food = stress, not comfort. I’m also trying to get myself out of the I did something hard, so I deserve a treat in the form of food mindset, so I am getting a lot fewer special coffee drinks and baked goods at the local café these days. But I will admit that a cupcake and an iced coffee is a little slice of heaven for me.

  3. Holy crap. Rolo cookies? That sounds amazing! You can’t go wrong with your list. So good. I recently craved pancakes. We had blueberry pancakes for dinner. Strange, I know. But it scratched that itch!

  4. Kari, I have two – homemade soup and warm crusty bread. That’s why I love fall and winter so much – COMFORT FOOD!

Hope you’re having comfy week, my friend! X

  5. I subconciously eat crap food if i am spiraling from anxiety/depression so I don’t really eat food for comfort. But lately I have had a craving for store bought pre-oiled pita with labneh & za’atar and deli prepared Spinach Pies from the local Middle Eastern Market.

  6. Well, obviously Bagel Boy Breakfast sandwiches and empanadas, but let’s not forget chicken pot pies, quiche, and Belgium waffles. We should include fried chicken, juicy steak, baked potato with butter, salt, and sour-cream, of course corndogs with only mustard, and I would add wine because it’s made from grapes and is considered a comforting fruit. Also taco’s from Taco Bravo but only after 2:00 a.m. Hugs, C

    1. I WANT A BAGEL BOY BREAKFAST SANDWICH. 🤣

      Chicken pot pie! YESSS
      Corn dogs only mustard. YESSSS

What am I saying…everything on your list. Cheryl, I swear to God, you and I are the same person.

  7. I love learning what others’ comfort foods are. I hope you are filling your belly and soul with comfort in these tough days.

For me, tacos are a comfort. Pizza. Chicken paprikas. Spaghetti and meat sauce. A hot cup of Earl Grey with milk. A plain bagel with butter and honey. A bowl of mulligatawny soup. Grilled cheese.

Food is so much more than physical nourishment, isn’t it?

    1. I love discovering what comforts others as well! I’ve definitely been filling myself with comfort lately. When all of the nonsense took place, I noticed that foods were no longer tasting the same. Even coffee was bitter. So writing this post helped to heal it. I’m grateful to River for writing the post that led to this one.

Oh, you have some delicious comfort foods! I’ve never had chicken paprikas or mulligatawny soup! You’ve inspired me to make a list of foods I’ve never tried but have always wanted to try.

Yes, food is SO much more! 🖤

  8. There are foods I love, such as avocado toast or gelato, but they don’t equal comfort to me because I didn’t eat them as a child. Comfort food has to take me back. Most I wouldn’t eat anymore except for special occasions (too much sodium). Some would be creamed chicken over biscuits, chipped beef on toast, and grilled cheese with tomato soup AND Swiss cheese torn up and thrown in the soup! How weird is that? My Dad taught me that trick!

WTH is a Home Depot hotdog?

    1. Oh man, creamed chicken over biscuits. All of those foods I remember eating as a child! I’ve even heard of Swiss cheese torn up and thrown into soup! I love it!

So, in the Chicago area, our Home Depots have hot dog stands in the vestibules. Not every Home Depot has them anymore, but thankfully, our local one does. Chicago-style hot dogs are served on poppy seed buns, but these aren’t, which is why I like them.

  9. I think there is so much to say in answer to your questions that it’ll have to be a blog post coupled with a song of the day. 😉 Quick answer is: my late mum’s bacon and eggs (eggs fried with bacon fat ladled over to congeal the top)… and my late dad’s sticky toffee bread pudding. For starters…

      1. No, oddly though it’s fairly simple, there was too much finesse in how she made bacon and eggs. As for the sticky pudding, I don’t know if anyone has the recipe. I’ll have to ask my sister-in-law, the family historian!

  10. ROLO COOKIES, I am stuck thinking about Rolo cookies, that seems insanely decadent and delicious.
I don’t have any idea what my comfort food is. I’m wracking my brain. I mean, I love food, I have lots of things I like, but is there something comforting? Seriously blanking on this!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. They ARE decadent, which is probably why I only make them at Christmas.

I went blank as well! That is why I wrote this post. I couldn’t believe it took me so long to think of my comfort foods! But once I did, I came up with so many.

  11. Comfort food for me is simple fare, with carbs. My Dad always did Campbell’s tomato soup with Cream Crackers for example. I’ve just eaten a baked potato with butter, baked beans and grated cheese – like I say, simple fare, with carbs :)

  12. I probably have way too many favorite comfort foods. ;-) My mom’s homemade meatballs and spaghetti and her beef stew; homemade cream of chicken and rice soup; meatloaf and mashed potatoes; Thanksgiving dinner (stuffing an absolute must); homemade brownies; good ice cream or gelato on a hot summer day; chili topped with chopped onions and lots of cheese; golumpki and pierogies; creamy chicken curry with naan bread; homemade chocolate chip cookies esp if they’re still warm & the chocolate chips are gooey…probably more but this is off the top of my head. <3

    1. Those are all some of my favorites as well! You gave me that cream of chicken and rice recipe years ago, but I need another copy. My recipe card was ruined, and I miss making it.

I’ve never tried golumpki!! I feel like I need to…

      1. You haven’t?! Never been to a Polish buffet or deli or had any Polish friends? Welp, time to change that! I wonder if there’s a good Polish deli near you where you could pick up a couple and try them? I was just at Ania’s Polish Deli in LZ today and got golumpki and pierogies. <3

      2. We have a really good Polish restaurant nearby that we love, but I never saw it on the menu. I’ll look the next time we go! Ooh! Let’s go to Ania’s the next time we meet! We could also go to Trader Joe’s. ❤️

  13. I’ve had Costco hot dogs many times, but like others, the news that Chicago Home Depots sell hot dogs blows my mind!

Tara has all kinds of comfort foods, but I really had to wrack my brain to come up with anything. I guess Zatarain’s red beans and rice, with a sliced-up andouille sausage, though I can’t remember the last time I made it. Does this mean I don’t need much comforting?

    1. On your way to our John Hughes tour, I think you and Tara should stop by our Home Depot and try a hot dog…

I like the idea of not needing much comfort. My tummy is not usually a fan of red beans, rice and andouille sausage, but the concept is appealing to me. I’d love to hear some of Tara’s favorite comfort foods.

  14. This is a fun topic, and I love seeing everyone’s comfort foods! My comfort foods are mostly bland and full of carbs! Here are a few of my favorites:
Sugar cookies, Scotch shortbread, or Danish butter cookies dunked in hot tea.
    Chocolate milk
Scrambled eggs and toast with lots of butter
Stew with beef, potatoes, and carrots made in a crock pot.
    Mac & cheese
    Grilled cheese sandwich

    1. I’ve loved reading through all of these!

      Danish butter cookies! Yes!
I also love scrambled eggs and toast. I love warm toast with butter and jelly.
I love all of your comfort foods! I forgot about grilled cheese sandwiches. Someone else mentioned them too. 🖤

  15. Great minds must think alike! I have a post coming up on Monday about all our favorite comfort foods. Though I think I mainly just thought of dinner foods and didn’t add any “others” like croissants, chocolate chip cookies, or french fries.
