Rants, Rita, and Realities – A Grace Full Life
If you’re not a listener, there’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started.
In case any of you are interested in starting your own podcast, I mention the book NPR’s Podcast Start Up Guide: Create, Launch, and Grow a Podcast on Any Budget.
In my podcasts, I say the word “um” frequently. I’m not even aware that I’m saying it. I don’t script my podcasts, but I do make notes for myself because if I didn’t, I’d ramble. Well, more than I already do.
I did some research to see if this was a problem for others, and based on the amount of links I found, it appears that it is.
This link was interesting:
For a variety of reasons, but primarily because his “start a filler word elimination project” gave me an idea.
What if we invented a new word for “um?”
A fun word.
What if you decided that word in the comments section for me? Then I’ll have to use that as my “um” from now on.
Here’s another good article:
11 Steps to Stop Saying ‘Um’ Forever

I mentioned that I started a podcast thanks to my blogging friends Matt and LA. Their podcasts, which they shared on their blogs, were the inspiration for me to start podcasting in the first place. I get a lot of inspiration from my blogging community, and I can’t thank them enough for providing me this outlet.
I started podcasting as a way to interact with all of you about topics I couldn’t write about. Then, one Sunday, I listened to an audio tape of my father in his early twenties. It was fascinating to hear his voice. It was like opening a portal to a different time. I’ve never met my father’s mother or my mother’s father. I wish I could hear their voices or read their words. As a result, this podcast evolved into more of a time capsule project.
If you had a chance to create a podcast, what would you like to talk about?

I mentioned how I despise my computer’s touchpad and only use it when absolutely necessary. My mouse is my preferred mode of operation. In fact, I bring it with me when I work remotely. My friend teased me about it affectionately a few weeks ago, which makes me question if it’s strange for me to do such a thing.
Do you dislike using your computer’s touchpad?
Health updates:
My mom is doing so much better! She has good and bad days, but she is healing beautifully overall. So much so, in fact, that she canceled her November back surgery. Thank you so much for sending healing vibes her way.

Biscuits is recovering. He’d hurt himself while playing with Buddy, but he was also suffering a fever. We took him to the vet, and he’s now on anti-inflammatory medication and an antibiotic. He’s been struggling this week, but he seems to be getting better each day. 🙂
I found using the touchpad really messed up my joints so now I try to only use my ergonomic mouse.

Oh wow, I never considered that! I just can’t seem to keep it where I need it on the page. I’ve lost entire blog posts because of the touchpad. 😦

I love my touchpad. So yes, you are a complete weirdo. 🙂 LOL!!
Poor Biscuits. I hope he feels better soon. How big do you think he will get when fully grown?
Awesome news on your Mama! Wishing her continued healing and if she can skip that other surgery? AMEN!

I’d always suspected I was, so this came as no surprise. 😉
Every day he feels a little better. The most difficult part is keeping him from playing with his brother, lol. He’s six months old already, so I don’t imagine he’ll get much bigger. Do dogs continue to grow until they’re a year old?
I’m so happy for her! She’s almost back to herself, and I know that makes her very happy as well. 🙂

I love that you got to hear your dad at a younger age. That’s really cool. Yeah and touch pads royally suck, when your mouse dies and your stuck with that, no thanks. Although. I have no problem writing and conceiving my blog on my tablet. And thanks for the shout out again soul sister. I sometimes wish I could read one of your posts on my podcast.

My mom’s voice wasn’t audible, but I would’ve loved hearing hers as well.
We have a lot in common, which makes me very happy.
You can read any of my posts on your podcast. I’m always happy to have my words shared. 🙂

I absolutely despise the touch pad and think they ought to do away with them completely. I can never figure out how to highlight text, etc.

THANK YOU! I thought it was more of a ME issue. I feel a lot less alone now. 🙂

Oh that UM word. No idea for a substitute. Love that your podcast will serve as a time capsule. I dislike my voice too much to try it. If I’d been brave, I’d have loved to do a podcast of our adoption journey. Writing about it feels so lengthy and slow motion-ish.
Great news on your mom. Coach is always on a mission to get his patients to avoid surgery.
Poor puppy. Glad he is recovering.

I used to be self-conscious about my voice, but my podcast is helping me in getting over it. I think that a podcast is an excellent way to discuss your adoption journey.
Yes to avoiding surgery. Normally, she’s in very good health normally, but she has had back problems her entire life. Fortunately, the neck surgery has given her much relief.

This is a late comment but just wanted to say I’m glad your mom is doing better and I hope Biscuits is feeling better now. I’m also a mouse fan and would prob even prefer one of those tiny travel mice over a touch pad. I bet u could find an optic (no mouse pad needed), cordless, discreet travel mouse for your coffee shop trips & that might make you feel less conspicuous. Tho I’m betting everyone at the coffee shop either doesn’t notice or notices and wishes they’d brought their mouse too!

My mom is doing so much better, thank you! And Biscuits is back to normal! In fact, he is back to his old tricks, which is a good sign!
Ooh, maybe I need an optic mouse!
Team Mouse Pad. Maybe I will start a club. 😉
