last october, ally shared a post with 10 questions she answered. i’ve had mine sitting in drafts ever since. as she steps away from blogging, i’ve been thinking about how i’ll miss posts like hers. this feels like a good time to finally share mine.

my need to want to please others
2- what is the trait you most deplore in others?
selfishness
3- describe yourself in three words

biting my cuticles
6- if you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
sharing what we have with others

10- what is the most important lesson life has taught to you?

which of these questions would you ask yourself?

I really like your answer to #3. It’s far more humbling than mine would probably be. Instead, I’ll answer #10: the most important lesson life has taught me is to never, ever settle. Life is too short for anything less than everything.

What a brilliant answer to six. I would bring back the Dodo, so people would stop saying, “dead as a dodo.”

I didn’t know of her before today, but what great questions! I think I’ll save this to answer sometime, too. I smiled with 4 and really get that, but my favorite answer or yours is 6. Co-sign. :)

I’m glad I could introduce you to a new blog, even though she is retiring. I hope her site stays up for a while so you can read through her posts.
You’re my kind of human, Stephanie. 😊

These are fabulous questions and I love your answers– especially work in progress. I mean, gosh, aren’t we all? Too bad not everyone realizes that though (or maybe they do and they just don’t acknowledge it?).

Maybe some people resist the idea of continual improvement because it means accepting they’re imperfect.

Yes! Thinking of life that way (a work in progress) makes it feel less heavy, doesn’t it?

Kari, I so enjoyed reading this! Loved the questions, as well as your responses. Many of which I feel the same.
“3- describe yourself in three words
work in progress”
Yessire! In fact, back in the 80s when I started my meditation, Reiki, and Reflexology journey, one of my teachers said the same thing – “We are all a work in progress – continually moving forward and growing.” – and she was right!
“10- what is the most important lesson life has taught to you?
to stop waiting for life to get easier and instead find meaning right in the middle of the hard parts.”
BINGO! I always tell myself to stay present and find the gemstones within every experience; even the hard ones. And it’s funny because when I look back on those hard experience, I feel incredibly grateful for them. I can honestly say that there is not a single thing I would change about the journey of my life. Not a thing.
Have a fabulous weekend, my friend. X

Not a thing, friend. Not. A. Thing.

Great answers! I’d looove the photos! Yesterday I was shopping a cheap clothing store and the majority of new plus size outits had crop tops. I admire the younger generation of plus size girls for having the confidence to wear those! My belly is flabby and my weight isn’t distributed in any kind of balanced pattern, so I won’t even try on something like that (the mirror reflection might cause an emotional crash)!!

Wouldn’t that be funny? My youngest daughter’s generation seems so much more free in expressing themselves, with no fear about size or shape. I think I could take inspiration from her and her friends.
By the way, I’m loving that you’re sharing more pictures of yourself on your blog. 😘💜

I love your answers, Kari! I feel very much the same as you about most of them. I have a hard time with these kinds of questions, as if I’m going to be graded on them! I miss Ally blogging too. Luckily, she’s on Instagram, so I can see little updates here and there.

Thanks, Michelle! I understand that feeling of being graded- it’s probably why it took me so long to publish.

Fantastic questions and answers! I think most of us menopausal (and post-menopausal) women struggle with that belly. :-(
And I think we should all be a work in progress. That’s living our lives the best we can – physically, mentally, spiritually. Life changes and so should we.
I particularly like your answer to question #10 because that’s something I constantly struggle with. I tend to have the thinking of, “When such-and-such happens, this will be better. Or easier.” I sometimes have a hard time living in the moment and being grateful where I am.
xoxo

I agree.
It took me a long time to get there. Soul homework helped. And my dad’s cancer solidified it. But, yes, it’s really hard to be happy in this moment when bricks are falling from the sky. It feels like this will be an eternal life lesson. 💜

Love this! The open-ended questions give us such insight into other people’s lives. I’d like to hear all my friends answer these questions. Thanks for being so vulnerable with us (I’m not being sarcastic, if you happened to watch RHOSLC this past week!) LOL!
My answers:

immediately going to the worst case scenario
2- what is the trait you most deplore in others?
telling me how busy they are
3- describe yourself in three words
lives for fun!
4- what do you most dislike about your appearance?
my nose (I’m envious of people with cute button noses)
5- what is your most unappealing habit?
being a clean freak
6- if you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
my innocence
7- who is your celebrity crush?
looks – Johnny Depp personality – Jason Bateman
8- which book are you ashamed not to have read?
i don’t book shame myself or anyone else.
9- what is the worst thing anyone’s said to you?
likely everything said to me about middle child from her birth through college years. it would be hard to pick one thing :(
10- what is the most important lesson life has taught to you?
the days are long but the years are short

Your answers…💜I’m going to answer one by one since you took the time to do so for me.
1-I’m like this too. Especially when I’m not feeling good.
2- YES. I HATE THIS.
3- I love this and I can tell this about you.
4- I understand this. I almost wrote “my profile” because I’ve never loved my nose.
5- I, too, am a clean freak.
6- Yes. I miss that. I see home videos from the 80s on TikTok and I want to cry.
7- I like that you listed one for looks and one for personality.
8- Same. We like what we like.
9- Oh, friend, I hate this so much but I also understand this. 😘
10- Isn’t that the truth.

I’ve been struggling with some stomach issues lately that took a turn this last week- we are hoping it is just constipation. Which has only made my belly look that much more pregnant. Being a woman is fun.

Dang, Kari. I’m sorry you’re having to live/deal with that. I just opened an email message from Kaiser (my health care provider) with an article about anxiety in women, and I could feel mine spiking. The TLDR seemed to be: Women have more anxiety than men because it sucks to be a woman and we probably aren’t going to do a good job of diagnosing it, understanding it, or treating it, but: SELF CARE. Ugh. I hope you get some real answers and help soon.

Oh I remember when Ally did these and I wondered what my answers would be to quite a few of them. Somehow, I never got round to doing them myself, so thank you for the reminder.
What I’ve most disliked about my appearance is how the skin on my face has aged in the past five years. I’ve been fortunate in having great skin till recently (good genes from my mother & grandmother), but I think the fact I’ve not been good at caring for it is finally beginning to show.

I’m glad this reminded you. 😘
I’ve never been good at caring for my skin either, Deb. I’ve never had a skin routine, I rarely wear makeup, and when I do, I don’t take it off at night (most likely because it’s worn off by then). I’ve been fortunate to have great skin despite all of this. I wonder if that will change for me too.

I love these questions and your answers. “Work in progress” — YES, that is so real.
One extinct thing I’d like to bring back is the landline. Okay, okay, I know it’s not FULLY extinct, but I wish it were more of a thing. I spent so many hours on the phone when I was a pre-teen/teenager and my kid isn’t going to have that experience and that makes me a little sad.

I totally agree with bringing back the landline. I feel like when we cut the cord, it changed how we communicated. It’s kind of sad, isn’t it?
