Screw It, I’m Eating Tater Tots-Episode 37 (Birthday Month)

If you’re new to my blog, welcome! Here is an explanation of the tater tot post.

Scratch and Sniff

I mentioned my love of stickers in a previous tater tot post.

Nicole then asked whether I had a sticker album as a child, which I did. I had entirely forgotten about scratch and sniff stickers until she suggested them.

Then another blogger mentioned gummy worm stickers.

See, this is why the comment area is by far the best place on a blog.

Anyway, a few days later, I came across some scratch and sniff stickers.

The burger wasn’t as appetizing (smelling) as I remembered, but if you have the chance, pick up some scratch and sniff stickers.

Take a look at how stickery my desk is!

I manifested that.

April 2020

Inner child

Speaking of tater tot postings of lore, in April of 2020, I was looking for a picture of myself in kindergarten that looked quite similar to this little girl:

Not the girl on the top, the girl on the bottom.

I relate to the girl on the bottom.

Long story short, I discovered the picture I was looking for:

Kindergarten 1975

For whatever reason, my cousin in Ohio had this image and mailed it to my mom a few months ago.

I’m not as eager to make fun of her as I was two years ago.

Hello there, sweet girl, it’s wonderful to see you again.

It’s called Heardle, and you have to figure out what song it is by listening to the first note.

Have any of you had a chance to play it?

Monthly rant

I’m thinking about making this a monthly segment. This month: Why I can’t watch Better Off Dead without purchasing the DVD.

We’ve been looking for the movie Better Off Dead (starring John Cusack) for a long time and haven’t been able to find it. I’m not interested in purchasing a DVD. This is where I become irritated: why, with all of the streaming options available, is this necessary?

Random tater tot nugget that won’t fit into a traditional post– Ella referred to John Cusack as “John Hughesack” the other day, and I think that will be the name I will use for him going forward.

Lots of hearts

Most of the time, when I react to your comments, I do so using my laptop. I don’t use the WordPress app on my phone since I don’t find it to be Kari-friendly.

So, over the last however many years I’ve been on WordPress, anytime someone leaves a heart emoji, I respond with a happy face. Why? Because I didn’t know how to make a heart on my laptop; I only knew how to do it on my phone.

That is, until the other day when I decided to google “how to make a heart on your laptop.”

There is no wizard behind this curtain.

And I found this article: How to Make a Heart on a Keyboard

By the way, Mike didn’t know how to create a heart on his laptop either. Thank GOD. 😉

So it’s hearts upon hearts upon hearts from now on in the comments section. ❤️

What I’m watching

Ted Lasso Apple Tv FINALLY! We got Appletv by switching Anna’s phone plan. We watched five episodes in a row one night. Now I see what all the fuss is about.

Turning Red Disney Plus We loved it; I know there have been mixed reactions, but it’s worth watching.

Lucy and Desi Amazon This was a beautiful documentary. Even if you’ve never seen I Love Lucy, the documentary of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz is both interesting and inspirational.

Life After Death with Tyler Henry Netflix We enjoy Tyler, and this program provided a more in-depth look into his life than his previous E Network show.

The Thing About Pam Hulu Despite the fact that the main character is completely unlikeable, we find ourselves unable to stop watching.

What I’m listening to

The Feelies- In Between

Maddie introduced me to this rock band a few months back in the comment section, and I’m completely in love with them. But I also like the fact that every time The Feelies arrive on my Apple Music playlist, I am reminded of her. Just another reason I love blogging and all of you.

Matisyahu- One Day

American, Jewish, reggae rapper. All of those words had me hooked. Listen to the song I’ve been singing in my car all month by clicking the link above. It’s been encouraging this month, especially in light of what’s been going on in Ukraine.

Joy Oladokun- too high

I adore Joy Oladokun’s voice. But her song “too high” is my favorite because every single word of it sounds as if I wrote it. Perhaps you can connect to it as well. To listen, click the link.

I’m not impressed by those who need to tell me how busy they are. I am impressed by people who figure out what is and isn’t important in life, and live accordingly.” LA from the blog Waking up on the Wrong Side of 50

Compromising who you are to gain the approval of another is a very precise example of giving away a piece of your spirit. Eventually you give away more and more of yourself until you have no strength or sense of self left. 1. Happy birthday month, Kari! I know you’ll do it up good (as you do). 🙂 ❤ (I feel smart because I didn't have to google how to do a heart emoji.) I love that photo of kindergarten Kari. I am especially grooving on the Peanuts tank top. When you were having that photo taken, I was in 5th grade. (My photo from that year features my very cool puka shell necklace and the perm I got over the summer from the beauty school in my grandparents' town.) That was the year we had reading buddies in the kindergarten class. I like to think that, in a parallel universe somewhere, you were my reading buddy that year. I remember that my reading buddy and I didn't really click, but I know you and I would have. How do I know? Lots of reasons, but an obvious one is that I have been wanting to re-watch Better Off Dead for a long time! And have been similarly frustrated at not being able to find it. I don't know if it would hold up, but I have a fond memory of discovering it at my boyfriend's parents' house one rainy afternoon when we had nothing to do, and we thought it was hilarious. I'm sure I would love it purely for the chance to be taken back to a sweet day.

    1. When I read that you could’ve been my reading buddy, I burst into tears. That brightens my inner kindergarten heart.

Please let me know if you find that movie. We can watch it from across the country at the same time. 🙂

      1. You do the same. So far, I haven’t had any luck–but I haven’t given it that much effort. I don’t have a lot of TV know-how. ❤ ❤ ❤ (I don't know why the hearts come out black. I'm not much of a computer ace, either.)

  2. Loved Turning Red (Canadian AND female-centric, diverse etc., etc?!?!), and can’t wait for the next season of Ted Lasso. Happy birthday month to you, Kari!

  3. Happy birthday, month!
I can smell your stickers from here.
I love your kindergarten photo; if only you knew then how important you would be to so many people. And the fact that you had on a Peanuts top means you already had style.

    John Hughsack. I LOVE IT.

I’m TODAY years old to learn how to make a heart on my laptop. ♥️ Thanks!

Love the migration link. but you know I’d love that one.

I listened to the podcast The thing About Pam a few years ago; I’ll have to tune in. Also, I need to watch the Tyler Henry thing. Do you think he’s for real?

    1. Aww, thank you Suz. I love you for saying that about the kindergarten photo. I appreciate you so much.

I’m so glad I was able to share my newfound heart wisdom with you!

I shared that specifically with you in mind. 😉

I believe he is, but I’ve been doing soul homework for two years, so what do I know? 🙂

Side note- Renee Zellweger took the role of Pam BECAUSE of that podcast!

  4. Last night Lad somehow set up/linked/synched (don’t ask me for the correct lingo here, I will disappoint) his phone to our TV so that we could watch CODA. It is just now dawning on me that APPLE TV is hooked up to our TV . . . Lasso, as in Ted, as in I might be able to finally start watching it.

The other exciting news I have is that I own the DVD of Better Off Dead because I could not rent it anywhere. I bought it for the kids for Christmas in like 2019. So, your problem is solved. You can just borrow my DVD.

I need to check out the link to ZOOM, because I used to watch that show all the dang time. I remember stickers that smelled, but you know what I remember most about smelling stickers? When I was in 5th grade, a person came to our school and spoke to us about how bad people sometimes used stickers laced with drugs like LSD. What? It seems so far fetched, but I know I didn’t make it up. Was that really a thing?

I really enjoy John Hughsack. How great is that nickname? Get t-shirts made. Please.

    1. I think all of you will really enjoy Ted Lasso.

Do you also remember The Electric Company? That was another great children’s show from the 70s.

I might need to trademark that name. 🙂

  5. STICKERS!!!

You and I had similar haircuts at that age. I should find some of my old photos. My mom thought my hair was “terrible” and so she always cut it short. I was dying for long hair and I have had long hair ever since I had any agency over my hair. But it was all Dorothy Hamill, all the time back in the day.

I haven’t heard of Heardle but I am going to try it. I was always good at Name That Tune, so I’ll have to give it a go.

I am so happy you get to watch Ted Lasso! Such a brilliant show.

    1. STICKERS!!!!

I would love to see your pictures! Nicole, I also had a Dorothy Hamill cut. I will have to find that picture as well. My classmates used to refer to me as pumpkin head.

Heardle is a lot of fun. If you suck at Wordle, try Heardle. That’s my slogan. 🙂

  6. Happy Birthday Month Kari!!!!
I am so happy you’re enjoying The Feelies. They’re a special band to me too. They remind me of happy times and old friends… and now they remind me of you! Things have been not so great here, so I’m behind on my blogs but I adore you hun and was really touched by your Feelies mention. ❤️

  7. Happy birthday month, Kari!!

I’m a sticker lover too! Speaking loving on our child selves, I’ve been thinking of starting a sticker book for myself. I feel like I had one for a little bit in 2nd grade, but we moved that year and I must have lost it because I don’t remember having one and I always wish I did. Scratch and sniff were my favorites too. The root beer one in particular!

I would be terrible at heardle but I want to try it out on my husband. I did a “name that song” challenge for him during during the lockdown stage of pandemic and he got every single one SO FAST – songs that I thought were totally obscure – he could name the title and the singer. I’m jealous of people who can hold on to trivia like that.

So glad you’re able to watch Ted Lasso. It’s my favorite show of all time. I have so much love for all of the characters. It’s nice to find truly heartwarming television.

Hope you have a great week!!! ❤

    1. Thank you, Katie!!

I love the idea of a present day sticker book! I might do the same, especially if my desk runs out of space. 🙂

I think your husband will enjoy Heardle then. Some of the newer songs are more difficult for me, but I send them to my oldest daughter LOL. It’s just a fun thing to look forward to every day.

I, too, love the characters! I finally understand what all of you were raving about.

I hope you have a great week as well! ❤️

  8. I absolutely had a stick album growing up and while scratch and sniff were favorites so were the glitter and the puffy ones… do you remember those? They were plastic with some sort of foam inside. I had quite a few of those and my girlfriends and I would trade stickers at recess.

I get so aggravated when a movie I want to watch isn’t on streaming– or when it’s a really old movie and I can find it on streaming but it’s like $14.99 to RENT! I know I could probably find them in the $1 bin at Walmart but we only have 2 TV’s left with a DVD player.

I not only can not look away from Pam but I have been Googling so much about the “real” story.

    1. I loved the puffy stickers! I remember trading stickers at recess as well. It was a lot of fun.

I now see why they charge so much to rent a movie. They know they have us right where they want us. Insert side eye.

SO HAVE I! Don’t tell my husband. I couldn’t wait until the end. 🙂

  9. As a woman who has worn glasses since age 5, I often wonder why people think serial killers wear one style of frames. I’m going to go read that link. I was into Caroline Myss books at one point and found her advice spot on. That being said I couldn’t tell you specifically one thing I learned from her, so maybe I absorbed her wisdom and integrated it into my own? And wouldn’t she love that.

    1. I think it’s the transition lenses for me. My friend and I were discussing it one day, which led us to the article.

My massage/reiki therapist recommended the Caroline Myss book I’m “reading,” but man, it’s a doozy. I say “reading” because I needed a break from it. 🙂

  10. Happy birthday month! I’m probably not as obsessed about stickers as you are, but I do have a handful that I fallen in love with and I like to use for things like junk journals 🥰

  11. Happy Birthday month to both of us! I’ll take the links from you in the post as my gift and in return I’ll direct you to emojis.com where you’ll find emojis you can copy and paste! 💕

    1. I love the fact that we both have birthdays in the same month! You, too, have a wonderful birthday month!
I’m sending you all of the hearts, and I’m heading over to the website right now! ❤️❤️❤️
