What I Kept | June 2022

I shared a post like to this one back in May because I was having trouble expressing how I felt in words. It eventually turned into a lovely little post, which I occasionally find enjoyable to revisit now and then. I find that going through my phone and looking at the photographs, quotes, and videos that I have saved for later is really therapeutic, so I decided to share them in the event that they gave comfort or reassurance to anybody else.

During the month of June, these are the things that I kept on my phone.

When did we start feeling “too old” for the jobs that make us happy? I started working at this job 8 years ago and kids tell me all of the time that I have the coolest job. One of my 4 jobs, but kids are so cute so I keep coming back 💕

I took this night sky photograph in early June. It doesn’t do it justice.

By the way, I’m nerding out over the newest telescopic images. (I cried) Let’s discuss it in the comments.

My mom and I were out shopping one day when we came across baby head planters. Umm, YES PLEASE.

Okay, phew…

Rebecca came by one day and texted me afterwards, asking me to take a picture of my soul homework area. This was one of the photos.

I love her version.

  1. How did you know I needed this today? ❤️ The houseplants and patio plants especially and the most excellent puppers side-eye. I have a tiny collection of dogs doing side-eyes and never fails to lift my spirits.

Yesterday I was sitting in my reading and bird-watching chair, following the silly antics of a family of wrens – I think?, listening to a recording of forest birdsong with my blissed-out cat and realized all that coziness was in no small part a gift of your blog. So thank you for all that too!

PS this is late but *yays!!!* for the hammocks! You know I love them. 😊

    1. Maddie, I swear you and I are linked. I’ve been thinking a lot about you recently. It’s wonderful to see your comment today!

When I see dogs with side eyes, I get the impression that they are human beings clothed in dog suits.

I love that you think it’s my gift! Maybe I sent it to you without realizing it, and I love the thought of that. ❤️

      Hooray for hammocks!!

  2. Your first quote reminded me of the Dalai Lama’s “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”

I wonder what he thinks of the magnificent magic that the Webb telescope is revealing to us 🤩

  3. Nice assortment of Keepers!! The bears, omg can you imagine if bears were domesticated!? What fun it would be to hug them! We start a lot of zinnia from seed every spring and they do amazingly well on our deck. The space stuff . . . I’d love to get excited about it, but my brain vacates the premises when I hear the words, ‘light years away.’ Sort of like high school physics.

    1. Yes, I know! I showed it to both of my girls and said, “Now do you understand the phrase mama bear instinct?”

Those zinnias were also started from seed. Every day, they get more gorgeous.

I just saw another TikTok describing how little we are and where we are in comparison to the stars discovered by the telescope yesterday. We are so insignificant. It’s both terrifying and exhilarating, and it’s all too much to take in.

  4. You know I love your soul homework space. It’s peaceful and zen and cheerful and sunshiny. Ooh, that piece from the book on writing. If you remember or find out what book that’s from, I’d love to know. Earth angels…I know some. 😉 Thank you for your support and words of encouragement to me last night and today with my darling Clementine. Carry…umm. lol

    1. That is how I feel about your home, especially Phil’s room. It has a peaceful energy. It hit me the first time I stepped inside many years ago.

I found the book! Writing as a Way of Healing by Louise De Salvo.  I didn’t finish it since it was right after my friend died, and I wasn’t ready for this book. I want to borrow it from the library again when I have more patience to read it.

Oh, friend, any time. I’m relieved that Clementine is doing better. Xoxo

  5. Awww, I love this, CARRY! Lol.
That first quote reminds me of that old headbanger thing back in the 80s. Why do you keep banging your head against the wall? Because it feels so good when I stop, man. I have no idea what that is from but it pops into my head on occasion.
The baby heads reminds me of my neighbour, who my husband competes with when it comes to Halloween decorations. He put a bunch of creepy baby dolls on an old tricycle and IT IS VERY CREEPY!!!

  6. I just can’t with the baby head planters. (But we’ve watched a few episodes of the Sex Room show on Netflix, and I guess I’m not into kink of any kind, so there’s that.)

Also, you are going to get me to finally pay attention to all the fuss about the universe. Off to click that link, but before that–

Carry made me smile so much. I don’t even know why. It feels a little poetic AND makes me eye roll at the same time. (Love, Reda/Reada/Reeda/Rida)

    1. SEX ROOM. Now you have my full attention. 😂

Next month, I’ll post a TikTok video showing how little we are in comparison to the Milky Way. I also watched it while high, so I want credit for that.

Biscuit understands. Can you image how they’d spell his name? At the coffee shop, I’m going to start using pet names. Could be the start of a fun new segment here.

      1. Watch this trailer: https://youtu.be/PTxj79KvvoI
It’s like HGTV meets a modern-day, very hip Dr. Ruth. We watch so many home renovation shows, and this takes that genre to a place I’d never have imagined. (Because I’m pretty basic and boring.) It’s fun and sex positive and funny–but I wouldn’t watch it with your kids!

I actually find feeling small to be a great comfort, high or sober. Puts everything in perspective, you know?

Give Bizkit a pet for me. 😉

      2. That trailer was not what I was expecting. I’ll absolutely watch it.

The video, together with the images from the new telescope, made me feel really at ease.

I’ll lavish him with affection, as per usual. ❤️

  7. ‘Blaine’ . . . so funny. The bear thing isnt working on my phone. Maybe at some point if i find myself NOT in a gym watching basketball. Hard to imagine. I might actually be closer to your house right now because I’m in Milwaukee. Maybe ‘carry’ because you were going to carry the cup with you? That was funny.

    1. We’re an hour from Milwaukee, so you’re around the same distance… 😂

We went to the Morton Arboretum on Saturday, and I’m curious whether it’s close to you? We should meet there sometime; it’s beautiful.

  8. Good morning Blaine Carry.
The toothache analogy/quote is 100% accurate, and why don’t we always think that way?
I love Father John Misty’s music.
Carry, I, too, am an earth angel and thank you for pointing that out.

I squealed seeing your Zinnia’s. I’ve had the best zinnias this year!

    1. OMG, that’s going to be my pen name! It has a nice ring to it.

It is such a great quote because I believe we all feel this way. 😂

I can’t believe I only discovered him this year! He’s wonderful!

      Yes, Suz, you are. 😘

They are GLORIOUS, and they were grown from seed!

  9. The space pictures have been one of the things I saved this month too!

I don’t mean to yuck your yum but the doll heads are a hard no from me. Dolls weird me out.

The job thing resonated. I worked for a frozen custard stand as a kid and then a small “kids club” for the town we lived in and they were the best jobs. If I went back to work I think I would want to go back to one of those kinds of jobs and not my “career”.

    1. I keep looking at those space photos, and each time I discover something new.

I didn’t buy them because their eyes followed me as I moved around the room. So I get it. 🙂

I also admire the fact that both jobs are around children. Children are far better human beings than grownups.❤️
