Screw It, I’m Eating Tater Tots- Episode 24 (Oops, I Skipped One)

I was going through past tater tot posts to figure out what episode I was on when I realized I never published a 20th episode.

Oops.

Nobody’s perfect.

This immediately made me think of this song:

Because Anna (and Ella) watched this show like Billy Ray Cyrus was paying them to do it.

This brings me right into my first topic!

GONNA PARTY LIKE IT’S HER BIRTHDAY

Our eldest daughter is “legal” this month. I can’t believe she is old enough to knock back a brewski.

I mean, let’s be honest, she’s in college, and this has been going on for a long time. But now it’s legal. 😉

Welcome to being an “official” adult, sweet girl!

It’s all downhill from here.

Love you, sweet Annie!

A LITTLE BIT ALEXIS

I’m sharing this because I needed it to be somewhere in case I am having a rough day. I had a hard time finding it anywhere online, so here it is:

Watch as needed.

CREAM OF WHEAT OR OATMEAL?

I spotted this on Twitter last month and it made me laugh because it was causing quite a stir (no pun intended).

Especially among those who live in the Midwest.

Who knew that you were supposed to eat Cream of Wheat?

My name is Kari, I grew up in Ohio and I ate Cream of Wheat with syrup and butter.

How about you?

Bacon S’Mores?

Speaking of breakfast, what do we think of this recipe: bacon s’mores?

I know I missed the mark with last month’s stomach-turning recipe of creme egg brownies, but this one might be better.

READ ‘EM AND WEEP

Currently, I am reading four books.

Yes. Four.

I DON’T KNOW WHO THE HELL I AM EITHER.

So I thought I would share my monthly favorites with you in tater tot posts.

Click on the image and it will take you to Bookshop.org, which supports local bookstores.

Or look for them at your local library.

She made me think in ways I haven’t before. I already have two of her other books on hold.

I didn’t go looking for this book: it found me. I was at the library picking up my holds when I noticed this at the checkout. I recommend it to each and every one of us.

This is my current soul homework book. I have had to renew this TWICE. It has taken me a long time to read because it’s deep, but man, it’s so good. *

*Update- I gave up. I started reading other books and I am much happier. But give this one a try if you are looking for a way to meditate that is on a different level. I may try this again.

This is part of my soul homework as I found his book through my maze o’ books. It was a little hard to get into this book at first because it is filled with small poem-like snippets of wisdom. Here is one:

Grace is everything.

Grace is another name for what we are.

Grace is undefinable, the ever perfect, timeless.

It is that in which the apparent timeful plays

as names and forms in their brief dance as life.

We are the experience and simultaneously

the witness of this experience.

Grace is that which calls you away from the chaos,

away from the noise of the world.

Grace is the same as peace,

but there is no peacekeeper

nor anyone being silent.

Grace is the breath of the self.

There are 300 pages of this. Some are more interesting than others. So I’m taking notes.

WATCH THIS, PLEASE

I wrote about comedians a few months back, and when someone messaged me about Tom Papa, I paid attention. Holy hell, Mike and I were cry-laughing at this one.

This documentary hooked us. Who WILL grow our food when all the farmers retire? As a granddaughter of a farmer, I urge you to watch.

I found this gem from my childhood:

If you love that one, then you will love this too:

Have you watched this yet?

This was wonderful. If you watch one documentary this month, make this the one.

As you can tell, we love documentaries. This one was slow-starting, but it’s an intriguing one. We had lots of thoughts, so if you watch it, I would love a discussion in the comments.

Again, I would love to have a discussion in the comments after you’ve watched it.

And BuzzFeed has this list of Best Movies To Watch Only Once.

LISTEN TO THIS

Annie makes me laugh so hard when she often sends me songs she “finds” and says things like, “MOM! LISTEN TO THIS SONG!”:

I mean, it IS a great song.

Here are other songs I’ve been listening to on auto-repeat lately:

I wake Ella up in the morning with this song:

LOOK AT THIS

Enjoy Annie’s birthday month.

Spring is coming.

  1. I am 100% anti-cream of wheat but oatmeal for ever. I have a recipe for crockpot steel cut oats that is basically a dessert.

Also Miley Cyrus is stupid talented. Her voice is just beyond. I’ve been CRANKING plastic hearts album this week (WTF is a bop even if I can’t play it with the kids in the car) so it made me smile that you posted her TWICE.

    Happy March!!

    1. So after reading that tweet, I bought Cream of Wheat for the first time in years. I ate two bowls and got a migraine that afternoon. But oatmeal is my favorite too. I would love that recipe. I found one on Pinterest that replicates the taste of a Cinnabon.

SHE IS. I loved her before and now. I think it’s because my girls grew up with her and she just feels like part of our family. We all (including my husband) LOVE The Hannah Montana Movie. It’s our comfort food movie. ❤️

      Happy March!!

  2. To paraphrase Tom Papa, have you ever come to a blog and found yourself overwhelmed by the goodness of all it has to offer and been tempted to just quit everything and spend the rest of the day going to every single link? I have.
Also I had cream of wheat for breakfast this morning.
And happy birthday to your daughter. Technically it’s too early for a drink, but you know what they say: the sun’s above the yardarm somewhere.

  3. Did you know that A Little Bit Alexis is on Amazon music? So good. I may make it my wake up alarm. Also happy birthday Anna!! I grew up hating oatmeal but it was because my parents had the sugary packets of instant oatmeal. Once I got older and learned how to make it myself I fell in love. I eat oatmeal almost every morning. I had a brief affair with cream of wheat, but it just can’t satisfy me like oatmeal. Breakfast just got steamy! Ugh, pun not intended.

OMG those fictional kids are some sort of sorcery. Also, it was giving me some weird emotions.

    1. NO, I DID NOT. Heading there now…

I love oatmeal so much more now than ever. Actually, it has been since the pandemic began for some reason. It’s cozier than cold cereal.

I found that link on Friday and you should have heard me talking to my computer screen. I should have recorded my reactions.

    2. I am all in on the oatmeal vote. I don’t know if cream of wheat would be GF but the word wheat in its title scares me.

Love the documentary recommendations. I love a good documentary. Why not be entertained AND get smart?

Somehow we missed the entire Hanna Montana thing. Maybe it was because we got cable SO LATE. Shock. I know.

Cool links. Hope to check some of them out when life slows the heck down.
It is weird when your child can legally have a drink. Even if you knew it was happening regardless of the legality of it.

      1. I would much rather watch a documentary than a regular movie. I like your description. I never realized I was getting smarter. Now I feel better about my choices.

It will be even weirder when we can go to a bar or restaurant together and she can order one off the menu. THEN I will feel old. 😭

  4. Happy 21st to Annie! As always, lots of good stuff in your Tater Tot post. Liked Cream of Wheat as a kid; as an adult, it doesn’t appeal to me anymore. I’m not a big fan of hot oatmeal either. It tends to be too gooey and reminds me of wallpaper paste, lol. But I do like cold oatmeal, as in overnight oats. I use 1/2 c of Bob’s Red Mill organic old-fashioned oats and add 1/2 c almond milk, let sit overnight in the fridge. In the morning I stir a bunch of yummy things into it…fresh fruit, toasted pecans and walnuts, raw pumpkin seeds, flax meal and hemp hearts, cinnamon.

Those pocket boxes from Calm are so cute, aren’t they? I’m going to take a look around the website. Looks like they have some good articles.

Love the drawings from the artist who did the couples behind closed doors.

Life in a Day is on my watch list. A Most Beautiful Thing looks really good, too.

Music…have always loved that Four Non-Blonde’s song, What’s Up. Her voice…OMG. It’s so powerful. Dua Lips and the song, Levitating is new to me…great dancing song!

Have a good week and enjoy the warmer weather we’ll be having. Hooray!
    xoxo

    1. Your oatmeal sounds heavenly. I love getting new oatmeal recipes.

I am enjoying this weather. It’s that faux spring we usually get but I am taking advantage of every moment of it. ❤️

  5. What a coincidence; I’m also a little bit lalllaaalalalalalalalala
Happy 21st birthday Annie, your Mom lied; It’s NOT all downhill. Just the responsibility part and a few other things.
    Oatmeal.
I love Tom Papa. Papa Tom.
I adored Captain Kangaroo!! Life in a day looks so good!
I need to watch the Brittney one. I couldn’t tell if you did watch it or not….good?
Four Non Blondes is one of my faves!!
OMG. I’m crying over the Superbowl commercial!!

    1. LALALALALALA I could watch that over and over.

Poor Cream of Wheat. It’s getting a complex.

Yes we watched it and it’s very good. It made us feel ashamed of how we felt about her. The media are assholes. I mean, we knew this but even women like Diane Sawyer were drinking the KoolAid. It’s a must-watch.

Every time I watch that commercial, I cry. I said to Mike afterwards, “why is a Toyota ad making me cry like a baby??”

  6. I don’t even know what Cream of Wheat IS. Is it wheat, that’s…creamy? And I’m certainly not Team Oatmeal. I grew up eating French Toast for breakfast most mornings. While watching Leave It to Beaver re-runs. (Later, my mother told me how irritating that was for her, but I had no clue at the time. My mother, who made all that French Toast, is the Best Mom Ever. No offense to any other moms out there.)

And Hannah! and Captain! And Stevie. Before Anna knows it, all kinds of things she takes for granted now will become things she treasures because they won’t just be what they are, but icons of earlier times. Happy birthday to the both of you. Congratulations on Mom Kari’s milestone.

Thank you for gathering so much goodness in one place.

    1. It’s like Malt o Meal. Have you ever heard of that? Now you have me wondering if that’s specific to the Midwest. Hmm.

TEAM FRENCH TOAST. Me too. I also learned this week (thanks to Ani) that there is a new French toast Girl Scout cookie.

Aww, I love all that you said. Yes to all of it. You always know the right things to say. ❤️
