What TikTok Taught Me in 2022

I’ve been putting off publishing this post since JANUARY. But there are some really useful information nuggets in here!

While there are many other things that TikTok has taught me in 2022, these are the ones that stand out as the most significant.

Go here to see my list of things TikTok taught me in 2021.

When you blow into a bendy straw under your armpit, it makes a fart noise.

Turn the turtleneck inward rather than outward for a cleaner look.

When your warm chocolate chip cookies come out of the oven, sprinkle with sea salt and chocolate chips.

The NFL was a non-profit until 2015.

CVS is an abbreviation for “Consumer Value Store.”

Before making French toast, toast your bread.

Or, use thicker bread.

The red and white striped bar on semi trucks is known as a Mansfield Bar, after the accident that killed Jayne Mansfield.

Cherry pits can kill you.

That wedding “cookie tables” even exist.

The world’s deepest pool is in Dubai, and here’s a glimpse of it:

No thank you very much.

The Little River Band is from Australia.

For some reason, this surprised me. I guess I always assumed they were Americans. How very American of me. I have a fond memory of this song, as it was playing on the radio when I was eleven years old.

  1. I’ve not gotten into TikTok, not because I think it’s owned by the Devil, but because, I’ve come to realize, I need a bigger phone. Honestly looking at moving video stuff on a small screen makes my eyes cross.

  2. I’m with Ally – I’ve never been on TikTok for similar reasons and, admittedly didn’t want the clips, but appreciated the summary. Most were new to me, and I was especially shocked by the cherry pit fact. However, I couldn’t help but question… isn’t a turtleneck turned in basically a mock neck? I’m no fashionista, though. Thanks for sharing theses!

    1. So my take on turtlenecks is that when I wear the cuff outside, they sag around my neck. However, when I turn it inside out, it looks cleaner.

Also, the mockneck is different from the turtleneck in that the turtleneck sits higher on the neck. But, it could vary from brand to brand.

      Thank you for reading! 😘❤️

  3. I have never been on Tiktok but I’m still learning everyday. On our walk today we somehow got on a conversation about squids and my son taught me all about devil squids, dumbo squids, and vampire squids.

  4. Yes, Kari, I most certainly learned a lot!

As you know, I LOVE turtlenecks. And I have at times turned it inward.

And it’s ironic you included the Mansfield Bar because I just watched (two weeks ago) a documentary on Jane Mansfield in which included how she died. Good to know the truck companies learned from the accident.

Those chocolate chip cookies look to DIE for! Yummy!

That pool is defintely another dimension. YIKES!

Thanks for sharing what you learned, my friend! Happy Wednesday! X

    1. I was thinking of you when I added the turtleneck tip! 🖤🖤

Ooh, where did you watch the Jayne Mansfield documentary? I’ll have to look for that.

Mike made them, and they were AMAZING.

Thank you, friend! Have a great rest of the week! 😘💕

  5. I don’t do TikTok but some of these were interesting! I did not know about the red and white stripes on the truck or what CVS stood for.

OMG that pool is freaky! I looked it up and it eased my mind to find it’s not a swimming pool, it’s for diving. Makes me feel a little better, lol.

Now I want chocolate chip cookies, dammit!

  6. That last one reminds me of The Average White Band is from Scotland as well as The Band Alabama 3 who did the theme to The Sopranos are as well. The inverted turtle neck looks weird to me, some of these I knew but for the most part you imparted some knowledge I was unaware of. 😁

  7. This post has me craving Chocolate Chip Cookies with sea salt and of course, a whole cookie table! I love that idea! I mean, I have to eat cookies to be safe because all the fruit I like is filled with cyanide.
I would have bet money that the Little River Band was American. How do I not know that particular song? I’m baffled.

    1. Mike made these cookies and they were DECADENT. Now I want one…

It’s brilliant to have a cookie table.

When I added that YouTube song to the post, I had it playing in another window while I edited. Then it started playing other Little River Band songs, and I was like, “OMG, I know that one too!” (Take it Easy on Me) I think I like that song better than the one I shared.

  8. I didn’t know the NFL was a nonprofit, ever. I can’t eat French toast, but I make it sometimes . . . why did it never occur to me to toast it first? I bet it tastes fabulous. No one would be surprised if I didn’t know that a band was from another country. No one.

I’ve learned recently that time is not on my side this summer. At.all. I am behind on everything and disorganized to boot. Me, or one of my offspring, went to the grocery store 3 times yesterday and Coach had to go back today. Get it together, self.

    1. That NFL nugget also surprised me.

My favorite breakfast item is French toast. I tried toasting it once, and it was okay. But I think it is because of the bread I used.

      I am sending you a hug. 😘

  9. I already knew about sprinkling salt on chocolate chip cookies, but I love the reminder. And I knew about thicker bread for French toast, too, but just had to say what a revelation it was to me when Cane used French bread the first time for it. For some reason, I thought I could only use the thin sandwich bread my mom and grandma always used.

I did not know about Mansfield bars, but they reminded me of Betsy Gates (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_bus_crossing_arm). Betsy was the daughter of a friend of mine, and I don’t have words enough to describe what her death was. I hate that we so often have to have tragedy before we do things that should have been obvious to prevent them.

    1. Oh, my dear. It’s heartbreaking. Growing up in Ohio, there was a girl in my class who was run over and killed by her schoolbus. When I went to look up her name, I found a lot of bus accidents that killed children, but not hers.

  10. So many great topics in this list! Here goes:

I had no idea what CVS stood for, but do you remember when it was Revco (at least that was the name for it in NE Ohio)?

I don’t eat French toast, but my spouse ordered it twice on our recent trip and it was unreal. Very thick pieces cut diagonally from what looked a baguette and served with both maple syrup and melted white chocolate. Crazy!

How had I never read about how Jayne Mansfield died? That is so interesting to know about the bar.

I did know all about the fruit and veggie dangers because I read a ridiculous amount of information on nutrition. I get nervous every time I take a sprout off a potato and use it anyway. LOL!

The wedding cookie table. Well, when we moved to Cleveland, I began to hear all about it. It’s very common with the Eastern Europeans and many times, it’s the grandmothers of the bride/groom making dozens and dozens of cookies. So yes, all the Polish and Croatian weddings here feature one.

    1. I had to look up Revco’s logo on Google, and boy did that take me back!! Yes, I remember Revco!

Ooh, I’m intrigued. I initially thought you wrote bagel, and now I’m curious what that would taste like fried with syrup on top.

Jayne Mansfield and Rita Hayworth, in my opinion, had more interesting lives than Marilyn Monroe. in terms of “bombshells”

I’M THE SAME WAY ABOUT POTATOES!!

I love everything about that. We live near Chicago and have a diverse range of cultures and traditions. This type of thing makes me happy.
