Am I A Visionary?

Side note: I didn’t want to come across as Tony Robbins in this post. My idea of fulfillment and yours are totally different. Trust me when I say that my definition of enough money differs from that of the majority. I simply wanted to share the intention process because I believe in it.

This is the third time I’ve written about vision boards since 2018. Does this make me a guru? No. I mean, I don’t think so? NO. IT DOES NOT.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in a coffee shop (okay, it was a Starbucks) working on my computer while Ella finished her summer school when I had a flashback to how what I was doing at the time was something I had actually manifested.

-Making money from home/coffee shop 👍

-Feeling content in my every day life 👍

-Writing my blog every week 👍

Then I remembered that I created a vision board in 2021 and asked for all of those things.

I modified the initial prompt. I also had to black out the school we wanted Ella to attend for privacy reasons. Every one of those things has come true in some way.

I created a board in 2018 that was saved because it was in the form of a blog post.

But then I delete, delete, deleted it. Sorry.

I did save the post in drafts so I could see what was on my board. I also saved a picture of my board.

In 2018, I was a big fan of platitudes. I wouldn’t have known the term back then, but I do now.

The difference between the 2018 board and the 2021 board was not what I was asking for, but rather that I was trying to control how it would look in my life when it showed up. I think the pandemic and soul homework have helped me see the difference in many of my wishes and how they manifest in my life.

I’ll let you click on the links to see what I mean so this post doesn’t turn into a book because I’d love to discuss this with all of you in the comments:

2018 Board:

-I want a life that feels like a vacation 👍

-I want to control my pain👍

-I want to pray daily 👍

-I want to do what makes me happy even if it doesn’t make sense👍

-Listen to my heart and soul more👍

-Want to get a tattoo👍

-I want to get my shit together (that is always going to be a work in progress)

I didn’t even realize that almost everything I’d asked for in 2018 had come true in some way. Even in the midst of perimenopause, when I was at my most negative and miserable. It took some time, but it all eventually came true.

For the skeptics, here is a disclaimer:

Despite this, the author said that she believes in things like what I am talking about in this post.

Make a realistic list of five things you want for yourself in the coming year on a piece of paper. It could be more, but I think five is a good starting point. Put that list somewhere you’ll see it every day. It can be as simple as a post-it note.

That’s it.

So, am I a visionary? Yes, I am. You can be one, too.

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. I haven’t been keeping a vision board per se, but I think the beauty of such things, as you can better attest, is putting a line in the sand and documenting your goals for the future. I think the beauty is being able to look back and see yes, here’s where I made progress, here’s some things I still want to work on. It’s the ability to look within yourself and see the progress you’ve made. Some good things for me to work on . . . thanks for the suggestion!

  2. Oh, this fills me with so much JOY for you! You brought these things into your life! Hooray!!!!!!

I am going to make a list right now. It seems greedy to pursue more when I have so much, but I suppose I will get what I get. My big fear is that my wants aren’t attainable, or that they are too narrowly defined. But I am still seeking them!

  3. Oh, how cool and wonderful! I love that you were able to achieve the things on your lists over the years. I’ve heard about vision boards, but I’ve never tried one myself. I can see how writing down what you want and putting it in a place where you see it every day helps to clarify your vision and keep your focus on it. It’s an excellent idea!

    1. I had no idea so much of what I asked for had come true. I should have mentioned that I bought a journal at Target last fall when I was going through a difficult time, and that is where I made the list at the top of this post. After reading the list, I realized, “Wow, I guess I’m doing better than I thought.” 🤣🤣

  4. Yes, I do believe we have the power to manifest things we desire. But as you also included in your post, there are reasons why the Law of Attraction may not work, which I believe is true.

Also as you mentioned, sometimes we do manifest what we desire, but then when we get it, it’s not what we thought it would be because we try to control how we imagined it to be when it showed up. We “idealized” how it will be.

As I said, I do believe we have the power to manifest what we desire. However, I am at a place in my life where I realize that I don’t always know what’s best for me. Therefore, I now simply allow life to give me what I need and believe there is a purpose for whatever presents itself to me.

For me, manifestation is a dance. I try to remain perceptive to what “my” desires are, but also to what life gives me. Sometimes (as in a dance) I take the lead, and other times I follow the leader.

That seems to work for my life.

FAB post, Kari! Excellent topic. X

    1. I had a feeling you’d get it. It’s been a difficult learning process to be open to what the universe provides and what I think I should have. This past year, I’ve struggled with a lot of personal stuff, and I realized that the primary factor was that I was trying to force things to happen when I should’ve just let nature take its course.

Thank you for reading, my friend. 😘

  5. This is fantastic, Kari! You just inspired me to pull out one of my journals and write the 5 things I want to manifest for 2024. May it be so!

  6. I love this so much—-it fills my heart to see how far you’ve come in the last few years. You’re such an inspiration!!
I’ve never made a board! I mean, a cheese board but that might be it. 🥴🫣

  7. Aw, I love this so much, Kari. There is so much in the world we can’t control, but there is so much we CAN. We can make things happen for ourselves and I’m so happy so many of your wishes came true. xo

  8. You are living this platitude: You Do You! And as our buddy, Lisa Barlow says, “I love that!” Here’s a secret about me: I’m not very introspective and I can be a Negative Nellie most days. So, I NEED people like you and Ron in my life. You guys don’t know how much you lift me up, whenever I read your posts. Your positivity picks me up and makes me feel like I can handle my current life.

Some of my current visions would be:

Take advantage of every day of sunshine, even if it’s just a short walk.

Every weekend, go on a date with my spouse.

Get together with friends that I’ve said I was going to get together with since 2020 and never did.

Focus on my body: eat foods that make me feel good, take care of my joints/bones with exercise, feed my mind with stuff that makes me happy (good music, books, blogs, and podcasts).

Let go of stuff that doesn’t matter (material goods, negative thoughts)

    1. I absolutely love that you included a quote from Lisa Barlow. 😘

Friend, I also tend to be negative Nelly. I love how you feel about Ron and ME. I don’t feel worthy to be equal to him. I’m SO happy to have met both you and him through you. You know, Ron could “transfer” to the Midwest and serve as our personal guru if we made money blogging. I’m not sure how he would feel about that. 🤣

I can’t wait for all of these things to happen to you. And they WILL happen.😘

  9. Good job, you. How great that you envisioned things clicking into place, and viola.

I am a list maker in the extreme, but my lists are usually things I want to accomplish in the coming day or week. I recently found a sort of manifesto from when I was graduating college. In it I swear off babysitting and I vow to travel back to Ireland every few years. Here I am, a career babysitter who finally went back to Ireland in the spring after 20 years. Maybe a visionary, I am not. ;)

  10. I enjoy reading posts that show me that people can and do make good things happen. You’ve done great, Kari. And you don’t sound at all like Tony Robbins, btw. You’re much smarter and more authentic than he’ll ever be.

  11. This is very inspiring! Thanks. I’ve been wanting to do a vision board for awhile but we don’t have many magazines (is that a lame excuse or what?) I will get some. In the meantime, I’ll go write down my five…

  12. This post just makes me feel good. I am so happy for you! I am a skeptic about. many, many things. I don’t know about the idea of manifesting, as I’ve often seen it presented. But I do believe there is power in intentionality. I think that when we are clear about what we want/need and are engaged in practices that keep us open to and seeing what is in front of us (really in front of us), our lives go in the right direction. I am not skeptical about manifestation the way you describe it here.

I haven’t done much of those practices this summer (part of why it was such a challenging time for me), but I’m looking forward to getting back on track, back into my usual routines. I appreciate the reminder/invitation to envision what life might be, as I change in response to the summer experiences.
