What I Kept | October 2022

Happy Halloween, my dear friends! These are the things I kept on my phone throughout the month of October.

I’m Batman! Found at the library.

In my post, Things I Want to Remember, I mentioned the Night Moves club. This song always takes me back there.

By the light of the mosquito-killing bulb.

A good exercise. I’m not sure where this came from. Ironic.

So much to love here.

Roger says Hi! (taken the first week of October)

This song is strange and magical. Good for a crummy day.

Booger!

Replying to @anequoo #BikeBus videos should come with a warning that you might get emotional.

This gym teacher created a “Bike Bus” to school every day. ❤️

I have to record a perfect sky whenever I see one.

The pens (and skeleton) on my desk.

Biscuits puts his paw on my leg like this when Mike travels for work, as if to say, “You’re not going anywhere, Mom.”

Among all the dead ones, this one began to bloom. ❤️

I really love this! Go here to read the entire blog post! (I added exclamation points for pizazz!)

We couldn’t resist this bargain.

“All that you’ve loved is all that you own.”

Got to spend a day in this little town with my dear friend Melanie. Recognize that building? It was in the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Oh, and also in a little movie called Groundhog Day. (Which I still haven’t seen)

Purple orange skies are my favorite

Seen outside a local Buddhist temple

This African violet was given to me by Ella one Mothers Day many years ago and it blooms every once in a while. I always take a picture when it does.

Wiiiiii…

Rainbow mornings

I’m not a fan of a long preface/forward/prologue. This is perfect.

Oh, Roger…

Speaking of Roger…

@kjp

And they lived happily forever after ☠️❤️💀

My mom made this apple cider donut cake found here

The last-ish of the garden flowers

I’ve seen her quote twice in the last month, which I think signifies that I am meant to share it.

Have you ever heard of this?

You’re a hero.

My mom made the cutest Halloween charcuterie board while over at their house to watch Hocus Pocus. ❤️

Oh Roger…(taken the last week of October)

You know that a library patron complained about this…😂

Have you ever had a “Depot Dog” Maybe this is just a Chicago thing…

I love the way she writes. From this book.

These lyrics…too good.

I was listening to Wriggle (the song I shared earlier with you) one day when I noticed the artist sitting in a field of sunflowers. ❤️

I saw this while working in the sunflower bed yesterday.

I appreciate you and I hope you know it. Thank you for taking the time to read my words (and others) each week. It is a privilege to share them with you.

  1. These are like Easter eggs for the soul. Can I live inside that Wildflowers video? There is a peace stick at an LQBTQ friendly church in town and I think it’s very appropriate. I remember renting Better Off Dead at Blockbuster when we were newlyweds and broke. It was a great movie. I have to laugh at Stacy Q and I’m still going to write a post about songs that take me back to an exact moment because, as Lisa Barlow says, “I love that!” (I hope you know the reference) LOL

P.S. That plastic hanging thing on the cardinal distracted me from the entire TikTok.

    1. Easter eggs for the soul. I love this description. ❤️

      Isn’t that a lovely video?

I love that you quoted Lisa Barlow to me. I LOVE THAT.

That plastic hanging thing should have been the first indication that we were being misled.😂

    1. That’s funny, because I was just telling my husband on Sunday that I don’t like sport peppers! It’s basically a pickled mini green pepper. In theory, it should be tasty, but I think the combination of all the ingredients that makes it just eh.

  2. Batman! We have that same guy. Netflix – what are you thinking? Show us your data to back up with recommendation. Maya was a gift to the universe. That non-listening bear video is so funny. My grandma used to be the master of African Violets. Hers were always in bloom. The ‘I miss you’ video is hilarious.

  3. I love these posts. So many good things here! I hardly know where to start. I love Roger. What a guy! I hope he had a great Halloween and is ready for November!

  4. Ah, Kari: So many things here speak to me! I LOVED Better Off Dead back in the 80s. Discovered it a few years after it came out with my sweet college boyfriend, and we watched it repeatedly. We thought it was hilarious and couldn’t believe that it had flopped. I’ve tried a few times in recent years to find it streaming somewhere, but I’ve had no luck. I’d love to see if I still think it’s funny. The TikTok with the skeleton–LOVE, again. It must have taken so much time for them to make that video. What a labor of love for the world. (Side note: I didn’t know those giant things existed at Home Depot. We saw one in our neighbor’s yard this weekend and I was floored. I even said, “Where would you get something like that?” Now I know.) The video of the dog with the toddler: Maybe the best thing of all. But hard to say. So many things here I love. Thanks for including the Harjo snippet. I now have that book on hold at the library. 🙂

    1. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it. It’s on DVD, which my friend owns. I might have to check Amazon.

Those enormous skeletons cost $250! But man, I love people who want to improve the world a happy space. And the dedication. I’d leave that sucker up all year for $250.

Every month, I look forward to sharing these posts. I’m so happy you enjoy reading them. Thank you. ❤️

      1. I guess if I spent $250 on it, I’d want to do more with it than decorate my yard. 🙂 My second big wondering was how they got it to stand upright. I just bought a few pumpkins and put them near my front door and called it good, and that was about as much effort as I could expend this year. I love those pumpkins, though.

  5. I have a love/hate relationship with these posts. (ok, not really hate) There are so many things I want to comment about, but by the time I get to the bottom, I’ve forgotten them!! 😳

Your mom with the cake and charcuterie board: LOVE!

Hearing Stacy Q took me back to when I was wearing parachute pants.

    ROGER!

    The Ebike Karaoke: LOVED

    THE BIKE BUS: SUPER LOVED!

I haven’t had a Depot Dog in years, but I had a Costco Dog a few months ago and it was pure deliciousness.

    1. I get what you mean. I’d feel the same way if I were commenting on them. 😂

Isn’t my mother the cutest? She’s always been excellent at these types of things. ❤️

Parachute pants! You took me back!

We need to get Roger ready for Thanksgiving. I’m not sure what will be in store. 🙂

      Costco dogs are also delicious!

  6. Omg I relate so much to your Perfect Sky Recording impulse! Lately I have to record a perfect sky with perfect tree(s) when I see one. We are having the most incredibly perfect fall color leaf season

But my dilemma – I want to share the pics but how many pics of Perfect Trees is it ok to text to loved ones (who are prob less obsessedthan me!)… Two? Three? 😊

Decades ago on the internet I stumbled across a Cloud/Sky website. Nothing but shared pics of the most amazing skies & clouds. It was like heaven.

I need this same but for tree pictures lol 😀

Your crying image also struck me. Someone recently told me, when you cry let it happen because it is important & shouldn’t be dismissed. When something (or nothing) prompts you to cry, you are close to discovering something important. Cry. Take the moment. And listen. Not advice. Just thoughts ❤️

    1. Maddie!! ❤️

We’re having a similar fall here. It’s been magical. I’m trying to take in as much as I can.

There is no such thing as too many tree pictures. 😘

Okay, I need you to go to the following website: https://thousandshadesofgray.com
Every week, she posts photos of the skies she sees while walking her dog in Colorado. You’ll love her scenery and content. I promise.

I’ve been crying a lot this fall, and I’m not sorry about it. It’s been a very cathartic experience. My body wants to release old beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and just STUFF, and crying is how it does so.

I’ve been missing you. I’m glad you’re here today. 💕

  7. Love these random snippets…

The little skeleton in your face planter with the pens is so cute. Where did you get that planter/pen holder?

A friend gave me 3 or 4 of her African violet plants (transplants from her huge plants) and they’re doing OK but they never bloom. I have tried every window in my house with no success.

Did you move your reading chair from your kitchen into your living room? (Photo with the rainbow on the wall.)

Mmm, apple cider donut cake. I have leftover apple cider from a chicken recipe I made so now I might have to make a cake. Though if I do, I will have to send it to work with Brian or else I’ll eat the whole damn thing.

Never heard of ruby chocolate but now I must find it and try it!

Can you believe I’ve never had a hotdog at Home Depot? Maybe because 1) I’m hardly ever at HD (it’s usually Brian); 2) when I’m there, it’s never lunchtime/a time I’m hungry and 3) I rarely eat hotdogs. BUT – I’ve heard from others that they’re really good! I know they’re the good Vienna ones. Maybe it’s the way they steam them?

    xoxo

    1. I bought it on Amazon for my plants a while back, but it was too little for anything I had, so I decided to use it for my pens!

I’m surprised mine blooms. I think she got it at the grocery store with her dad!

I did move the chair! I wasn’t using it at all during the summer, so I figured it’d get more use in the living room. (It has)

The cake was delicious, however you are right in that there were way too many leftovers.

You know who may know something about Ruby chocolate? Ethereal…

Those hot dogs are delicious. I don’t like poppy seed buns, and they are the only hot dogs in the area that do not use them.

      😘

  8. “I-I-I-I-I-I need you, I-I-I-I-I-I need, I need you…” Ahh, Stacey Q! Pretty sure I had a poster of her hanging on my bedroom wall in high school. Alongside Samantha Fox. Long live the ’80s.

And long live “Better Off Dead.” Criminally underrated movie! I want my two dollars…
